Win was a step in the right direction

It feels good to get a win on the board.

We played an awful lot better with the ball against Cas, scored some good tries and things started to click for us.

We were better coming out of our own end as well – we completed a lot more, which gave us the opportunity to do that.

There were still a few silly penalties given away but we were more disciplined than we were in recent weeks.

It was definitely a step in the right direction but we need to follow it up with another good performance against Salford.

They’ll be smarting from their defeat to Leeds and they’ve caught us cold there a few times. They’ll play a tight and compact style of rugby and we’ll have to be on top of our game to counter that.

Meanwhile, there’s been a new addition to the coffee club.

On days off we try to get together away from rugby, and young Noah, Rikki’s son, made his debut this week.

He’s only about five months old but we got him on the espressos and Jo, Rikki’s fiancee, has been complaining since because he was up all night.

Dave Halley and Stu Reardon have started bringing their guitars as well.

You can’t shut them up now, they’re well into it, so that looks like it’ll be the next big craze at the club.

Watch this space, they could be the next Henry and Robbie Paul.

On a similar note, I’ve heard Tom Burgess was absolutely outstanding at Matt Diskin’s testimonial X-factor event.

Apparently, he was unlucky not to win it, but Scrutes was absolutely abysmal as Bon Jovi.

It was just sympathy applause that got him through it in the end.

Rob Burrow took home the trophy with his medley of Michael Jackson songs.
