    Bulls accept Harris blunder
Iestyn Harris joined the Bulls in 2004 on his return from Welsh rugby union
Iestyn Harris joined the Bulls in 2004 on his return from Welsh rugby union

The Bulls have finally accepted they messed up over the Iestyn Harris affair and have now apologised and paid compensation to arch-rivals Leeds Rhinos.

The two warring clubs have at last drawn a line under the prolonged and financially-draining dispute over Bradford's signing of the former Great Britain star.

They have been at loggerheads ever since the Bulls captured ex-Leeds captain Harris on his return from Welsh rugby union in 2004.

A High Court ruled two years ago Leeds had first call on their former player but the clubs have only now come to a settlement, with Bradford paying an undisclosed sum in compensation and costs.

In a statement last night the club said: "Bradford Bulls now accept that, although when they signed Mr Harris they believed that they were free to sign him and acted in good faith in doing so, they now appreciate that in fact Mr Harris was committed to sign for Leeds Rhinos at the time and apologise to Leeds Rhinos for doing so.

"Bradford Bulls have also agreed to pay Leeds Rhinos appropriate compensation and costs."

Bradford also issued an apology for comments made by chairman Peter Hood earlier this year in which he claimed the tug-of-war could cost his club more than £3million if they lost another court case and that could have driven the Bulls into bankruptcy.

The statement continued: "Bradford Bulls also wish to make it clear that the comments made by their chairman Peter Hood, reported in the press at the end of January 2008, were not intended to give the impression that Leeds Rhinos' claims against Harris and Bradford Bulls were motivated by anything other than the protection of Leeds Rhinos' interests."

Biggest blunder in the world but I think we're all thankful that it's over and the Bulls will still be a club in 2009!

Haven't we already given them compensation by losing twice to them this season already?
Posted by: flashdonut, Bradford on 9:47am Thu 8 May 08
    Finally over.

On a positive note, Leeds academy have not won a game all season.

Macca and his youth policy will defo turn this club around.

    The future is bright.

    Whatttt?

I thought Peter Hood was confident of winning the case?

Just another pile of his garbage I think.

This should have been admitted along time ago.

just wonder how much compo we have paid them. it ought to be taken out of mr harris' pay packet!
Posted by: micksey, wibsey on 11:00am Thu 8 May 08
It wouldn't surprise me if it's not a huge amount at all. If Leeds thought they could win and get what they wanted why would they settle out of court? when players move clubs for an 'undisclosed sum' it usually means washers. I'd be surprised if they've paid them that much when it comes out.

Would imagine the way Harris has been performing the last three seasons, the compensation package would be 100k!!

LJ - do you believe everything you read ?? if so then maybe you believe Terry Newton was taking drugs. Read between the lines of last paragraph of the article - I have had reservations all along about Hetherington,s motivation in this case. He never seems to be happy unless he his throwing his weight and his m**th around - he now has an issue with RFU and Lancaster, the man never knows when to stop. He his liken to an animal that gets its teeth in and will not let go. Looking forward to reading your sarcastic remarks LJ

    LJ for Bulls chairman,coach,physi
    o players etc. etc. etc.

    Why an undisclosed sum??
It will have to show on the next balance sheet, won't it?
This has always been a big problem with our club - crap communications with the people that matter - the fans.
Let's hope we can reclaim some of the losses through a Terry Newton libel case settlement - undisclosed or otherwise.

If Leeds were getting their big payout like they wanted it wouldn't be an undisclosed sum.

The statement from the Bulls says appropriate compensation. This does not necessarily mean cash! Making amends may mean the loss of your best player / players to Leeds. I don't think this is the end of the saga just yet.

Heck!! Does this mean they have got Harris back?????

    In the papers?

I think you'll find he said it at the fans forum.

As for Peter Dudd, do you really think that I believe anything that slips off of this mans tongue?

    Welcome back BTW Ruthy.

Great news it's sorted. These things are no good whatsoever for any sport. Let's now forget it, respect both sides agreement and move on.

Now we own the 3 million pound man can we sell him to Celtic Crusaders while we still hold his registration & get a fee for him. I for one will be glad when Jefferies is fit & back playing

Yep - Harris to Leeds as compensation. we've been paying to much for the last 4 years anyway. Let's hope the free cap space in 2009 will allow us to sign some quality players, a decent winger comes to mind for starters.

LJ - I know exactly what Peter Hood said at the fans forum because I was there. If you attended that forum I wish I could have met you face to face that way I could visualise you every time I read your posts. As a passing interest is there anyone out there going to Australia for the World Cup cos I AM . How about you LJ, I'm sure you would be real company.

Lets just know how much. Just another non ending saga for the fans. Is it Peter Hood or Robin Hood. No wonder nobby found it impossible to work with him at the club. He was wrong - resign.
