    Newton fuming at drugs error
Bulls hooker Terry Newton has been left
Bulls hooker Terry Newton has been left "devastated" by an incorrect article in the TV Times
The Bulls are preparing to sue the TV Times after the magazine wrongly stated Terry Newton had been "banned from playing rugby league for 20 months after failing a drugs test".

The remarkable error, printed on a TV preview page high-lighting Saturday's Millenn-ium Magic clash with Leeds, has left both the club and player fuming and seeking legal advice.

Chairman Peter Hood said: "As far as I can see, it is a straightforward libel in that it is an incorrect statement about our player.

"Terry is devastated as it is the worst possible thing you could say about any professional sport person, regardless of whether you are a rugby league player, cyclist, rower or sprinter.

"To be described in that way, as guilty of such an offence, is completely untrue and factually incorrect.

"Terry has never been accused, let alone convicted, of what they have written and so we are consulting lawyers and I know he is doing likewise."

Great Britain star New-ton revealed: "People in my home town of Wigan have already started asking me if it's true and started talking about cover-ups, saying that is why I've had other bans extended.

"It has really affected and upset me, while it is also very embarrassing."

Bradford intend bringing their own action as they believe the club have also been damaged by the allegation.

Hood said: "The article includes a photograph of Terry wearing a Bradford Bulls shirt with the club logo. That is why we're taking legal advice as well."

The article in this week's edition, under the title "Look out for." mentions that "Bad Boy 2" Newton was handed a two-match suspension recently for striking an opponent.

That is not denied but the first allegation - next to the header "Bad Boy 1" - is completely off the mark and could prove a costly mistake by the glossy publication.

TV Times were unavailable for comment today.

Another Bradford hooker, Ryan Hudson, was banned for two years soon after signing for the Bulls in 2004.

However, he was immediately sacked once found guilty of the drugs offence in March 2005 and never actually played a game for the club.

Hudson returned to Super League action with Huddersfield Giants last season once his suspension had been complete and featured for them in Cardiff on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Hood revealed the Bulls, who host Catalans Dragons in the Carnegie Chall-enge Cup on Sunday, expect to make announcements about a number of key re-signings in the next few days.

James Evans (dead leg) and Ben Jeffries (hamstring) are bidding to be fit for the weekend, while prop Joe Vagana is hoping to get the all-clear to return from his broken arm.

I have a feeling the TV Times are in a bit of trouble! oops! Think they got mixed up with Ryan Hudson myself.

Key re-signings...wonder who that could be? Excellent news that Big Joe is back tho...just what we need right now!

It's disgraceful. Some fleet street hack who covers the sport section on the TV Times and obviously knows very little about RL. Didn't do their research very well and are now in a lot of trouble and rightly so.

Do you think if Leeds were not taking us to the cleaners, we would be as keen on this issue?

Don't get me wrong, i reckon we should have TV Times pants down on this, but the timing could be fortunate.

£100 000 in the kitty in advance.

The media in this country are a disgrace. TV News,Radio and the press need cleaning up big time. They invent stories for dramatic effect and I wish Terry and the Bulls every success in milking them for every penny...Meanwhile...
"Re-signings?? Don't tell me MacAvoy and St.Hillaire are coming back again!!

Sorry to be a spoilsport, but the re-signings will be current players on new contracts.

A few players are out of contract at the end of the season - Morrison, Big Joe, Evans etc.

That's all what is meant with re-signings.

Morrison, Evans, Halley, Tadulala, Finnigan and Godwin would be a good day at the office! The rest need to earn it really.

I reckon they need to talk Joe out of retiring again as much as all the above, or get thier money out and sign some real beef and power to replace him.

Agreed. I know he's 32/33 but he's still one of the best prop forwards in the world nevermind SL.

I remember one point I thought he was past it when he had a really quiet season a few years back. Since then he has looked awesome and I think this year has been his best, cant wait for him to come back and carry on his form. Then move burgess to back row!

To many old boys and to much dead wood in our side.

Vagana should be shown the door, along with Morrison and Feather and replaced with quality younger players.

29 actually and Morrison will be at the back end of 32 before next season starts, where as Joe Vagana will be 34.

    Far better.

He's had a couple of bad injuries in 2 years, Joe is a big unfit old lump who cant get off the ground quick enough to even get to first marker.

Ah but he does get up. And Puletua is 29 now and will have just had his 30th Birthday when he joins the Saints. Personally, I don't care how old they are (look at Stanley Gene!) I'd rather have tried and tested decent players than the likes of Carvell and Puletua

maybe the damages paid to the club by the publishers will be used to pay off LEEDS over the HARRIS saga.

why would u get rid of morrison? He has been in the top 2 of our best players over the last two seasons? Puletua is looking for a big pay day. I would seriously think about bringing richard moore back! I know it’s a big call but he has been in great form this season!

No he doesn't Mick Higham and James Roby get him every single time, dont pretend you haven't noticed it.

What about Stanley Gene? He's as slow as a horse and cart.

You should care how old players are, players with age on their side means they have more years left in them therefore you get more usage out of them, they are also generally fitter and more ethusiastic.

As for tried and tested players, Carvell and Puletua are as tested as they come.

What you really mean is you have some sentimental attachment to Joe V and feel a sense of loyalty to him.

Thats all well and good Ady, but the the Bulls need to improve, and we cant do that by keeping ornaments.

Why are Leeds so good over the past few years and right now?

Because they have young players carrying them along, not old has beens struggling along.

    Because he's to old.

How do we know Puletua is looking for a big pay day, he might just have wanted a change of culture which a lot do.

I would think that Kiwis come cheaper than the Aussies also.

Darren Lockyer, now he is looking for a pay day.

I agree we do need a lot more youth in the team. But I disagree getting rid of morrison, he has been there done that and is still doing it. He can bring the young kids on! The thing with the bulls is they never gave the youngsters a chance when they wer 18 and just coming through now they are getting older they havent played enough games to take over the mantle. im talkin about players like james and kopzcak. if they had been brought on earlier they would be 1st teamers now. look at sains - wilking, graham etc. hull have done it brilliantly with their youngsters and they will see the rewards for doing it next season!

O'm aware he isn't playing now Shaun, this is because, unusually for him, he is injured, and his absence is keenly felt. Furthermore, when fit, which is by far most of the time in fact, he plays for much more than 20 minutes and makes us a much better side, he remains a stand out front row forward and one of the very best in the competition. Try and stay calm Shaun then the mists of confusion may clear long enough for you to see these self evident facts. And don't resume your husband and wife thing with LD it makes for a catastrophically dismal pairing.
