Morrison: We've got to move on
 |
| Glenn Morrison is already focused on Saturday's Challenge Cup clash |
Glenn Morrison knows the gutted Bulls have no time for self-pity.
Hurting after another demoralising Super League defeat against fierce rivals Leeds, Bradford must quickly dust themselves down.
Red-hot Catalans arrive for a huge Carnegie Challenge Cup tie on Sunday and any Millennium Magic hangover could be longer lasting if they get dumped out of the famous competition.
After the 40-26 loss in Wales, Morrison said: "You never like to lose in that fashion and with it being Leeds and a derby people obviously feel it more.
"But we can't afford to get down or lose confidence in ourselves or the team.
"You can't beat yourselves up too much and must put it out of our minds because Catalans are soon here.
"That's another massive game and we have to be right mentally or otherwise we're kicked out of that too.
"That's how the Challenge Cup works and there is no tomorrow. We'll be playing it as if it is the Grand Final."
The loose forward was one of the better performers in Cardiff but he remained powerless to stop Leeds racing to victory after Bradford - 10-6 up at the break - got ruthlessly exploited out wide.
"We were all disappointed with that second half," admitted Morrison.
"In the first we played well and strong but the second saw vital mistakes and wrong options let them in.
"We completed five sets. You can't afford to do that against any side let alone Leeds."

One week we're sat here saying that the team look great and we'll kick on from this result.
The next it's we need to get over this and we know we can do better and everyone's down.
Inconsitent. But they are still in fourth with some tough games left. We'll know by the middle of next month really whether we're well out of the running or not.

Totally exposed yet again for lack of speed and actual confidence in terms of running the ball, 2 points will do instead of taking them on,as leeds did!
Our attacking play was poor,no creativity at all and with no pace to bring on with the departure of Evans. Why Platt was not on the bench was a strange decision but then of course we had the likes of Tupou and Nero to add pace !!!

Guys we're all depressed and the 2nd half was lamentable defence wise, but it's not the end of the world. Tupou should be dropped, in my humble view he cost us the game which a big thing to say about one player but I Leeds spotted he was positionally inept as he was against Wigan in the play off game last year, but there it is, gone, and we can't change it bleating.

Macca has this silly idea Toupou can make in the forwards but had to play him on the wing when Evans got injured. Platt on the bench would have given far more options but for me it would be Platt at F/B and Halley right wing in any case.

The guy has only had 2 full seasons at top level and to be honest the way we have been playing, I don't think 4th place is too bad.
Come on guys give the coach a chance.

His problem is he likes to move infield too much leaving a gap out wide.

I rate Macca. Really do. He has a great Youth policy and is trying to get pace and attack into the team.
But the Tupou thing was a disaster. If he wa there as a prop, then he should have stayed as a prop. Not only by putting him on the wing did Lynch and Burgess have more work to get through, but it wasn't even the obvious choice.
Sykes on wing, Nero in centre.
As easy as that.

I think if they are seriously saying Tupou is now a viable front row option that's a bit strange to be honest. Isn't it admitting he's a lousy signing but we better find something he can do since we have to pay him?

he is a strong runner and it could be a good option to be put at prop. i agree on the macca thing. the bulls are going through a transition period which can last a long time i.e 3 to 4 seasons. wigan are doing it and so are hull(although they had no choice with injuries). steve took over a team that was messed up by noble, he got out when he could as he knew this was happening! we had no pace and were playing the wrong tactics. steve has done well since he was coach but will take time to find new young speedy players. look at the average age the bulls had when he first took over to what he has now. hopefully he will continue the restructure and bring in speed and youth!

Maccas hands are tied to some extent through lack of funds and Harris's wages etc., Its hard to say how he would cope without these obstacles. Maybe he would be fine. It just seems at these times we need some real experienced people at the top and we havn't any.The ship needs a pilot.
As for Toupou. There is little chance of him making a prop. Can you really see him carrying two or three defenders back towards their own line??

Generally a good coach has the respect of his players and has the ability to motivate them. Brian Smith turned Bulls around both on and off the field..for example. Macca is still very early in his career and is attempting a job which would tax the most experienced of coaches.
