Chev Walker column: THE new season is here and I am looking forward to it massively.

Everyone is talking about tomorrow being a huge game and it is, but we’ve been training since the start of October and can’t wait to get going.

It’s important to lay down a good marker in the first couple of games but, above all, we’re striving for a performance.

In the pre-season friendlies, we’ve only shown glimpses of what we’re capable of.

We started all right against Cas, got a bit rusty in parts and then started really flat against Leeds.

We need to knock that on the head and make sure that the attitude we show in training is transferred on to the field.

It’s a new era for Bradford and the game itself.

We’ve got Karl Harrison here to support Jimmy and Rhino’s knowledge of the game at this level is second to none.

We’re all tapping into him and he’s telling us that it’s going to be a lot more physical and slower in the Championship.

We’ve been training that way and if I had to pick out one player to shine this season it would be Etu (Uaisele).

Some of the stuff he does in training reminds me of Marcus Bai because he’s a bag of energy and is so strong.

It wasn’t difficult at all to come to terms with the fact we are playing in the Championship.

I play rugby for a living and, if I hadn’t been signed here, I would still have been playing somewhere in some form.

I’m sure there will be certain games in the Championship that will be played at Super League standard, so it’s exciting to be a part of that.

On a personal level, I’m fully fit and raring to go.

I had a little niggle in my wrist at the start of pre-season but it’s been fine now.

I had to have a nerve removed from my hand after the injury I sustained last season.

The nerve was removed to block the pain but the strength is still there and everything is okay with it now.

We know the year ahead isn’t going to be easy in any way.

For us, it’s just about making sure we’re looking after our own backyard.

We know the pressure is there but it’s not putting us off – far from it.
