Jamie Foster column: As a team we have spoken about the need to make a strong start in games – but last week against St Helens we were 20 points adrift before we had even blinked.

We can’t get a kick up the backside after 30 minutes and then roll our sleeves up and have a go because the game is gone by then.

Last week was incredibly frustrating in a number of different ways but especially so for me coming against Saints.

It was a weird one coming up against lads you have effectively grown up with.

When Gary Wheeler broke away after about 65 minutes, I found myself chasing him. I had to pinch myself because I’ve never chased him before in my life.

Maybe when we’re joking around on a field when we were ten years old, but he was a team-mate for so many years.

I probably struggled with that at times and Jonny Lomax, another mate of mine, took centre stage with a hat-trick.

Jonny is a very good trainer, works hard at his game and performed very well against us last weekend.

The positives to be taken from the game were that we steadied the ship at half-time.

It’s something we talked about at the break – we weren’t going to roll over and die with 50 points put past us.

Another major positive was the return of James Donaldson.

I’ve been lucky that I’ve only had injuries that have kept me out for a month. I was climbing the walls, so to think Donno’s had two years out of Super League is something you can only imagine.

To get himself back in this condition is credit to him and the people around him. Hopefully now we can start seeing what he’s capable of again.

It’s a big derby this weekend and the Giants have made a strong start to the season.

They’ve got an awesome pack and we know that we need to match them up front and get amongst them.

No doubt the Bulls fans will travel in huge numbers and hopefully we can give them a performance to savour.
