Jamie Foster column

This weekend’s game is special to me for obvious reasons – largely because it will be the first time I will have played against St Helens.

I had a taste of facing a former club at Hull recently but the significance of this goes far deeper.

I think I did 10 weeks on loan at Hull but I spent 12 years at Saints.

I know everyone at the club – all the backroom staff, all the office staff and I’ve got a good relationship with the fans as well.

I joined the club on scholarship when I was about 10 years old and then signed professionally when I was 16.

I literally did my exams at school and then became a professional rugby league player. It was that simple.

One day I’m doing my exams and the next I’m training with the likes of Keiron Cunningham and trying to get into the first-team.

I left on good terms and I said all the right things in the press when I left Saints and joined Bradford.

I didn’t want to be remembered as the bloke who turned his back on his hometown club.

I wanted to tell my side of the story and that’s what I did.

I’ll definitely be clapping the Saints fans at the weekend but it comes down to two points and I want to be taking them.

As I said in Thursday’s T&A, I know for a fact that the likes of Warrington and Wigan won’t be too fussed about us beating Wakefield and Castleford.

It’s when you start knocking teams like St Helens over at home – and beating them convincingly – that people starting taking notice.

Due to Michael Platt’s injury, it looks like I’ll be on the left wing again this weekend.

Mick Potter gave me my chance there in Super League and I played two Grand Finals there, so it’s a position I know well and I believe Keith Lulia and I can form a potent partnership.

We’ve got a few things we need to tweak when we’ve got good ball and we’ve been working on that this week.

Hopefully all the Bulls fans can turn out in force again this weekend and roar us to a third straight home win.

That would be some start to the season.
