Luke Gale can go all the way to the top, says Bradford Bulls boss Francis Cummins

Luke Gale has age on his side as he bids to make the step up from England Knights to the elite squad Luke Gale has age on his side as he bids to make the step up from England Knights to the elite squad

Francis Cummins sees no reason why Bulls scrum half Luke Gale cannot make the leap from England Knights into Steve McNamara’s senior side.

Cummins was delighted to have secured the services of the 24-year-old on a new three-year deal after his impressive debut campaign at Odsal.

And he believes the former Harlequins man – in line to represent the Knights against Ireland in the Alitalia Cup on Saturday – could force his way into the elite squad ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Gale starred for Kieron Purtill’s side at the end of last season in victories against France and Cumbria and has trained regularly with the elite squad during his time with the Knights.

Cummins said: “Galey is playing for the Knights now and hopefully he can push on into the full England squad.

“He’s only young and it’s like everyone else – it will come down to how much he wants it.

“There are a lot of young men with ambition but he’s definitely got the ability.

“We all have to sacrifice things in life and I think Galey is ready to do that now.”

Former Bulls duo Tom and George Burgess join Gale in Purtill’s squad, who also face Scotland in Edinburgh on October 28.

Meanwhile, the RFL were yesterday expected to receive the report into the circumstances which led to Craig Kopczak terminating his contract with the Bulls.

The governing body will then decide what course of action to take but it looks certain that l Continued on Page 35 Kopczak has played his last game for the Bulls and will join Huddersfield.

If a fee for Kopczak’s services cannot be agreed between the clubs then a tribunal will decide.

The homegrown Wales prop is focusing on Saturday’s opening autumn international against France in Lens, which is followed a week later by the visit of England to Wrexham, with the top two teams contesting the November 11 final at Salford.

Kopczak’s growing presence in Iestyn Harris’ squad was illustrated by his elevation to a four-strong leadership group from which the next captain will be chosen.

“Iestyn has put me there for a reason and I’m just relishing the opportunity,” said 25-year-old Kopczak, whose captaincy rivals are Ben Flower, Jordan James and Neil Budworth.

“It would be unreal if I ever got to captain the side. It would be one of the proudest moments in my life.

“If you look around, there are quite a lot of young faces in the squad so hopefully I can lead from the front.”

Huddersfield are a club which will never win anything despite their cash poor fan base average coach & a lack of passion for the shirt.

Hope you enjoy playing infront of 4000 crowds Kopout.

Gale will be a class act having a good quality half back to guide the boys round the field will do us wonders next year the squad is taking shape. I hope Ainscough gets a deal the lad is so passionate about the club & grafts his backside off I think we should snap him up asap.

I agree-if a guy isn't passionate about playing for a club and wants to leave then let him go. You're never going to get the best out of someone if they are not happy in their job.
It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth though when you think what the bulls have done for him in his development and this is how he repays them. I appreciate one has to look out for oneself as it is a short career in RL but the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Let's hope we get some compensation for him as Leeds did for Harris (What did he ever achieve for us?) and we can use the money elsewhere.
Wonder what reception he will get when he turns out at Odsal for the Giants?

bullybully dont put the kiss of death on us pal. How many season tickets have we sold so far? Dont forget us Bradfordians vote with our feet, poor team and we stay away. Come on FC announce some signings now lets see what we have coming in lets get some positives before pre-season. Question for you but is anyone else volunteering on a match day? I fancied doing the turnstiles but I like a good pint before the game.

As for inside information any information you require just speak to one a several open & honest people at the club who will gladly and openly tell you things as they are.

I have seen our club have its heart ripped out by Caisley, Hood , Agar & Bennett thankfully they are all long gone so its not a case of tinted specs its a much brighter future than we have had for a long time.

And as for getting a life Im more than happy with my lot in life take it your a mate of Kopouts ?

I would have put Kopczak behind Hargreaves and Manuokafoa last year anyway and while on his day he could be good he was never outstanding if a player doesn't want to play for a team then there is no point in trying to keep him, looking back a few months if supporters were asked out of Bateman, Whitehead and Kopczak who would they rather lose I'm pretty sure who the majority woud have gone for.

I think all Koppy wanted was to secure his future, and was obviously advised by his agent.

Can't blame him in a way, but might have been more prudent to wait until the outcome of the Bulls was known.

I'd even put him behind Tom Burgess after last season. But you are correct...we've kept the "key" backrow of Whitehead, Bateman, Olbison and hopefully Donaldson.
We've never had a problem creating genuinely top class prop forwards so the loss of Koppy will be minimal. We've lost better props in the past and still been fine upfront (Lynch, Vagana, Fielden, Sam Burgess!) I'm not worried.

thats what I heard as well seems to be a witch hunt still on the agenda. Don't think any of the players got the chance to really address the problem once the TUPE was announced. Seems Kopczak was the only smart one but I did hear that the majority of players had already made contact with other clubs via agents and the monies on offer from other clubs was substantially less so they decided to stay put and see what the outcome was. Really am looking foward as to the outcome to see who was in the wrong as it is rather boring now and I would rather see more players coming in as our recruitment is too slow bearing in mind the players we have to replace. Just hope the bitter posts on here stop as I cannot seem to get my head around the fact that if several fans did not rate him why are they so bothered surely a club of our size and fan base can attract more talented players.

Where has the money gone ! what money we have only made a profit once in the last 10 years so there has never been any money its just the managment & revenue got worse. Take a look at the accounts the big problens started 5 years ago when 2 directors took their loans back out of the club.

It really is down to the past management/directors for the mess we have got ourselves in and I still think we are being plied with false rumours and statements. Like the other day how can one players salary be holding up more signings what a load of tosh. Don't forget Kopczak was just an employee like those who were made redundant at the club and if he was in any other job I think like all of us he would have considered his options which is pretty safe to say. At the end of the day we are just supporters and none of us really have a clue what has gone on as it has all been one sided publicity or bad journalism so it will be interesting to see who comes out of this with there head held high. It has also puzzled me why there has been no official statement from Kopczak or his agent but if you ask anyone that knows the lad which a lot of people do in Bradford they all say the same that he is a cracking lad and one of the most approachably within the squad so what the heck was being said behind closed doors whilst we were in administration.

It will be hard to say what was, and is said behind closed doors:
Mostly I suspect it's been a "need to know" basis. As supporters all we see is outcomes from decisions that have been taken.
We then make up our own minds by speculating on what is plausible or in the case of some people on here totally implausible.

However what is apparent is not what Koppy did, but how it was done? If he and his agent were vindictive, one would suggest it was designed to cause maximum damage to the new regime.

However being kind to Kopczuk shall we say he didn't really think he was doing any harm to a team that had backed him for all his career, and when others around him were not being paid, his salary was secured. Plus he was going to be part of a new club for at least 12 months, with his pay level and employment rights protected and intact, which was more than a large number of other people could hope for etc. etc.

Bearing in mind he was the only one who did this, is it any wonder that our supporters feel anger. personally I don't mind that a few hundred pounds of our money went to help save our club.
But I resent that he (CK)can be so disloyal, to everyone who supported him.

The captain of the shipwrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner must have thought 'everyman for himself' before climbing aboard a lifeboat a little too early!..... Heard he was a nice guy too!
.
CK wasn't made redundant and those that were returned and supported the Club that they loved whilst Mr K continued getting paid.
.
Sport is, as you know, a team game and a team is as strong as its weakest link.....
.
I dont see or read anyone hanging the Clubs financial woes on any player by the way.

Steam, we do need a good prop. Yes, I would welcome him back. But would his colleagues and the other 9998 supporters.
By his actions, he has destroyed the trust that was there. So, to build it again, what does he do? Does he take a full page apology out in t n a, hoping that works.

If I'm to be honest, for the good of the team and the supporters, he should join the Giants or whoever. We should be paid a fee by the club that gets him or if it's the giants a fee and compo for an illegal approach. If that's the case.

But, we know, like God, the RFL moves in mysterious ways.
