Former Bradford Bulls star Fielden’s excitement at making Giant leap

Stuart Fielden Stuart Fielden

Huddersfield have signed former Great Britain prop Stuart Fielden following his release by Wigan.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Giants, where he will link up with head coach Paul Anderson, his old Bulls team-mate.

With Brian McDermott and Joe Vagana, they formed the famous “awesome foursome” front row quartet who laid the foundations for Bradford’s trophy-laden years in the early days of Super League.

Fielden was widely acknowledged as the best front rower in the game when he left Bradford midway through the 2006 season.

He cost Wigan a world record transfer fee of £440,000 but he was not offered a new contract after making just two appearances in the last two seasons due to knee and pectoral injuries.

“It’s a very exciting day for me, the first day at my new club and I am really enthusiastic about it,” Fielden said.

“For the last two years Huddersfield have been in the top four for two-thirds of the season so there is obviously something right going on.

“I feel I can offer a lot of experience. I have been in 15 finals and I’ve got ten trophies, which is something I can draw on and give insights into the big games.”

Well more kicks in the teeth for all the armchair experts who keep predicting bulls recruits and exits. Hope Stuart has a great couple of years

Another former Bradford lad, who I thought would come back, has found other pastures. Did the Bulls make a move for him? Was he too expensive? Was he surplus to Mr Cummins plans and requirements? Who knows? It is now history but I know who I would have preferred between Mr Scruton and Mr Fielden. Good luck to you Stuart. I hope you have an injury free season and look forward to you gracing the Odsal turf once again.

Suspect even with an injury ridden past two seasons he would still be too expensive for the Bulls

Think we are likely to see more loan signings as they can result in decent players coming in without having to pay all their wages

It's not a long term solution but with limited funds and only 1 year license we dont have much choice

I would think Cummings is after younger blood. I have a feeling he's after building a young team and promoting from within, with rewards to be reaped in 3 or 4 years.
.
He's seen the stop gap measures applied since 2005 and has seen it doesn't work. Best to take a short term hit and build for the future.
.
Having a team that gives youngster an opportunity will attract the best to the club.

Shipley, no experts, they just have opinions, like me and you. Mines a pint, agree, but if we don't act soon, there be no one available, loan or otherwise. Unless FC has irons in fire, already.

Would have added experience to a young pack. Hope he's over injuries and plays well, although not too well against us.
Don,t know if FC made enquiries, was too expensive on not in his plans.
Good luck to him.
Still leaves us short on props!

Just another thought, is it not rumored that Kopout is going to Giants. How many props do they need?

just how many props do hudds want? Hopefully this means they're no longer interested in Kopjak. He just needs to sack his agent, blame him for badly advising him and announce he wants to stay at Bulls. Koppy is a much better player than Fielden

Wold not say better than SF but certainly younger and better prospect. Await RFL announcement on Kopjak. Believe law would allow him to resign but Bulls would have right to retain registration, so they would be able to extract suitable fee for international player. Agree should apologise and then be welcomed back.

It has been said that Kopczak, has apologised to Club, Coach and Players. Not supporters. Maybe just a rumour. Giants may have signed Stuart, because of the problems they have with the RFL investigation on Koppygate. Had they continued with a move for Kopczak, been found guilty it would have cost them more than what they are paying in salary for Stuart.

What an absolute pile of bull crap!
He hasn't & wouldn't apologise to anyone, I'm sure he would rather slit his wrists than return to bradford! wont Giants have one hell of a powerful pack next season!
I'd say manakafucka is demanding way more money than fielden was!

Hey bad breath I heard that nas is on a fortune as well and that his agent tapped him up for a move to giants and they turned his wage demands down. How rude and disloyal.

Viking,
I don't know what they're treating you for in hospital, but I hope they have a look at your brain. For some inexplicable reason you seem to think that you are now some kind of intellectual colossus.
Your post may have been supposition, but like most of the tripe you post, it is delivered as if it comes with some kind of insider knowledge. Who's mantle are you trying to steal? Adeys?
He would waft about various forums pontificating to the plebs with his inside knowledge and ended up looking like a right Burk, so I wouldn't try emulating him.
By the way, seeing as how you now seem to know all and have a direct line of communication with the rat breeder, how many season tickets have you managed to shift?

Not the case we had talks with him but he rates himself too highley & wanted mega books. I like Stu but he has been a massive flop for Wigan I think he would have done more for Bradford but at 33 not worth the price tag.

Would have loved SF back but not at any price, particularly as he only played one game this past season. He`s 33 had a lot of hammer in his career and if Shuddersfield have offered him big money good luck to them and him, it`s a risk.
