Rise in cost should help put Bradford Bulls' ticket prices in line with rival Super League sides

TOUGH DECISION: Newly appointed Bradford Bulls coach Francis Cummins (centre) with Omar Khan (left) and Gerry Sutcliffe say urgent action is needed to help get the club back on an even footing. Click on the image below for season ticket prices.
EXCLUSIVE
Bradford Bulls’ new owners last night revealed fans will have to pay twice as much for their season tickets compared with last year’s prices to bring the struggling side back to a “sound financial footing”.
Bradford restaurant boss Omar Khan and former Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe revealed the price structure for season tickets at the newly rejuvenated club – announcing an ‘early bird’ offer which means supporters can buy a season ticket for 13 games for the price of nine if bought before November 14, as well as an initiative that will see under 12s able to cheer on the team free of charge at home matches.
The cheapest adult early bird price for the Terrace is £180 – more than double last year’s lowest price of £85 – but the OK Bulls Limited chiefs say the new prices would bring financial stability to the club and put its ticket prices in line with rival Super League sides.
Bradford South MP Mr Sutcliffe, speaking after unveiling Francis Cummins as the team’s new head coach yesterday, admitted the prices were neither the most expensive, nor the cheapest in the top-flight – with Leeds Rhinos’ cheapest ticket priced at £200, Warrington Wolves’ £199 last year and Huddersfield Giants’ £99.
“We need to bring the club onto a sound financial footing,” he said.
“The first thing we looked at was the price of season tickets and other Super League season tickets. We know these are difficult economic times, so we have created an early bird offer which means fans can buy their tickets cheaper if they buy them before November 14.
“Last year a family with two children would pay £160, this year, with the early bird offer, they would pay £180.”
The pair, who saved the side from the brink of liquidation on August 31, said they have also brought in a scheme where fans can pay for their “early bird” tickets in three instalments – with payments in October, November and January.
They say they want to sell 10,000 season tickets and hope their offer for under 12s would persuade parents to accompany their children to games.
Mr Khan said: “The young people are the future. They are the future of Bradford Bulls. These are the youngsters that will come and see games and want to become part of it. It could be their career ends up with Bradford Bulls, whether that’s as a player or in management.”
Fan Ian Whitehead said he thought the increase in ticket prices would hit attendance at Odsal by 2,000-3,000, but the new prices were more “sustainable”.
“Whether the season ticket prices contributed to last year’s debts, we don’t know.
“I think it’s a good price compared with other Super League clubs, but I think it will put a lot of fans off.”
Early bird season ticket prices for adults on the Tetley’s Stand will cost £225 and £270 for the Premier Club. There are also rates for concessions, students and juniors aged between 12 and 16.
If bought after November 11, adult ticket prices will go up to £220 at the Terrace, £275 at the Tetley’s Stand and £330 at the Premier Club.
To buy tickets, call the club on 08448 711490 or visit the ticket office.
Bulls will host a fans’ forum with Mr Khan, Mr Cummins and several players in The Coral Stand next Tuesday, at 7pm. The box office will also be open late for supporters to buy season tickets.

In the words of Monty Python, I'm buying a season ticket and so's my wife.
We / the Bulls are still being punished by receiving far less in TV money, and at a time when we have the bare bones of a squad and it appears players can be poached by our competitors with impunity.
The former owners / board should hang its collective head in shame. I'm sure we're in a better position now, though, and the darkest days are behind us.

I fully understand that many people will find it difficult to afford the new tariff in the current economic climate, hopefully the scheme to pay over 4 months may be helpful. The Club has to rebuild on solid foundations and unfortunately this is one of the costs of achieving this. Those of us that can must support the Bulls now by buying tickets - our long term future depends on it. COYBs

They'll be at least 2000-3000 adult tickets bought for the tetleys stand at £225.

I fully understand why the prices have "normalised" and appreciate that the previous prices were unsustainable. It does however feel like the fans are paying out again to keep the club going. BUt that is what being a member of a club entails isnt it?
But, Have I missed something? A family for £180? Thats one adult plus kids under 12 isnt it?
I am married with three kids. Thats £360 isnt it?
Typical of a labour MP to not realise that it is still ok for some people to have what is regarded a traditional family with two parents!
.
But why on earth have the T&A printed that, without realising and questioning?

The previous pricing was suicidal, especially for a second consecutive year. The pricing is fair and I think there will be a lot more than 4000 take up the offer but fewer "on the day" spectators which will always depend on the performances on the park. I believe the Bulls have a hard core of between 6000 and 7000 dyed in red, amber and black supporters.

" A fanatic is someone who won't change his mind, and won't change the subject!"
Sadly we all tend to add comment to counteract the 'Zealots' whilst losing sight of the story:
No one seem s to have picked up on the concession that Season tickets can be paid in three installments of October, November and January!
Which means £60 per installment, with a superb concession of not paying the final £60 until JANUARY ie after Xmas (this is pro rata with £180 as the mean average).
So losing sight of the story means losing sight of one of the main concessions.
Makes the proposition look far better and affordable doesn't it?

Help me eek out my pensions. Valid point you raised there, raise me up. Gives people chance to pay with no real hardship involved. £5/week to save up, a small amount. Although some on here will find it hard, of that I've no doubt. Can you pay by DD I wonder?
Needs investigating, but in today's financial climate concessions of some sort need to be made, it's all down to marketing the concept from now.

The coral stand should be used more for functions to me this has never be advertised or marketed properley
There are plenty of companies who use the facilities for confences
What i would like to see is a party organised fo the fans may be a Christmas party and at a reasonable cost many i am sure would go coybwe are alive and kicking

Bulls will be lucky to sell 5000 season tickets in the current financial climate and the likelihood that as a team they will be struggling next season.Even with pay on the day and away support I can't see many gates above 8000 and when they play London or Catalan it may barely hit 7000.Far better having cheaper tickets with 12000 on than price out many and have a two thirds empty stadium.

The new owners have priced it right we pay more when we go to the away games at most clubs
This is sensible the club needs to generate money this covers the salary cap
I beleive the next move will be to use the stadium to its full potential

And fans cant complain much, yes they will now be paying double, but at least the price will be more in-line with other teams' tickets.
So seems to me that most fans could be too cheap to support their own team.

But, Have I missed something? A family for £180? Thats one adult plus kids under 12 isnt it?
I am married with three kids. Thats £360 isnt it?
Typical of a labour MP to not realise that it is still ok for some people to have what is regarded a traditional family with two parents!
