Bradford Bulls beaten heavily by Salford

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Brett Kearney's try gave the Bulls the lead for the only time in the match against Salford Brett Kearney's try gave the Bulls the lead for the only time in the match against Salford

Bulls 18 Salford 38

The Bulls' recent impressive form was emphatically ended as Salford City Reds romped to victory at a sun-drenched Odsal.

Mick Potter's men had won three of their four previous outings but a first-half horror show saw them blown away by a vibrant Reds outfit.

The visitors led through Josh Veivers' early try before Brett Kearney's touchdown, converted by Jarrod Sammut, put Bradford ahead for the only time in the game.

Salford moved through the gears in devastating fashion, scoring through Joel Moon, Luke Patten and Moon again before Ashley Gibson and Matty Ashurst went over to put the Reds into a 30-6 interval lead.

The Bulls improved after the break and hit back through Elliott Whitehead and Bryn Hargreaves but Salford claimed a seventh try through Gareth Owen and Holdsworth landed two late penalties.

Disappointing as it's no use winning against Saints then falling flat against Salford.
I was worried when LSH said they were doing nothing different! We need to be doing something different. Inconsistency will push us out of the eight.

We were dreadful in parts of this game! Defense was very poor in 1st half and we gave up too much ball through silly errors in sometimes good positions. Think we must have gifted them at least 3 tries!
It worried me how the heads looked like they were down in parts of the game.
It was just generally Disapointing!
Hope there is a quick fix, as hull away will be very difficult!

We seemed very flat today. some of the tackling and decision making was dreadfull. Salford started on the front foot in the first half and pretty much carried that through to the hooter. Someone as already mentioned the poor officiating and to be fair he's spot on. Thaler as with various other whistler's seem oblivious to the opposition's indiscretion's, last week it took 51 Min's to award a penalty!! to the Bulls That stinks. The touch judges seem to miss the obvious. I personally would get rid of the flat pass as too many are forward. The officials today were poor but that wasn't the reason we lost. Maybe too much back patting after results against Hull and Saints. Losing our best player of recent games in Jeffries inside 25 Min's added to the frustration. Every thing that could go wrong seemed too. 3 of their tries in the first 40 were fortunate, We had a Try disallowed for would you believe a forward pass!! that was endemic of the performance. We weren't good today and Salford were. They scored the best Try I've seen at Odsal for quiet some time. Elima back next week.

What a shame. We all arrived full of confidence of a good performance and left massively disappointed.
I could not single out a player to blame at all. We lacked direction and it seemed no-one wanted to step up to fill the jefferies role.
Bit surprised to see bateman start on the bench and would have played platt over sykes but to be fair sykes deserved his place after last week.
The officials were pretty dreadful but I think we let them beat us. We should not be giving a penalty away when we drop the ball.
One positive for me was that for the crowd were great in the first half and understandably became frustrated.
Second positive is that the pink whinos are getting a stuffing at a team we beat last week (without roby before anyone pipes up!)

On a diff note we need to get the rest of the youngsters signed up ASAP (addy, bateman, crookes etc) and build a team around them, get shut of the rubbish like walker, Sykes etc

Disappointing, but hard to be too harsh on the team after recent results, although you have to feel this was a massive opportunity lost to put another 2 points on the board on the way to the play offs (hopefully).

*
It seemed to me to just be a case of some of the team feeling that okay would be good enough today when in fact, with their returning players, Salford were a different proposition to the previous couple of games when they were missing a lot of their key players.

*
Need to get back to the hard graft in training and use this as a lesson that if we don't turn up to play every game, we're taking the progress for granted and we'll be in for a rude awakening against any team.

*
By the way, there were a few grumbles about Bateman not playing yesterday and I don't totally disagree, the lad is class. However, we have a very heavy Easter coming up as always and he was always going to need a rest at some point - would like to see an announcment on a long term deal for him soon though!!

The only excitement we got was when we were awarded a penalty!! Old Faithful round the corner ..WEK UP!!

We looked like last week took it out of us emotionally and this week we had nothing left to give.
We look drained and as if they had left their brains in the turned off position.
langley did well taking the ball up but that's because he shoudl be a prop now and let Bateman play loose.
Karl Pryce spent most of the game feigning injury like when people ring in work when they actually aren't sick. Just couldn't be bothered at all but then again most of them looked like that.
What's more disappointing is that we have seen that they can dig in, play and win.
Think we missed Elima for a bit of fire and passion and to motovate the players, although I don't know if that would have been enough yesterday.
2 out of 10 for effort and performance :-(

Well lets start with Walker & Burgess

Walkers deffence is appalling players run through him for fun so far he has demonstrated he is neither a credible centre or second row & should be shown the door at the earliest opportunity

Burgess was personally responsible for thre of Salfords tries with dumb offloads & loose carries.

He is becomming mister unreliable I shudder every time the ball goes to him & then breath a sigh of relief when he manages to catch the ball but now he has decided he can offload!! WTF!

Last season he was used as an impact battering ram where he was fairly effective. This year with 10 interchanges & the need for props to do more game time he is getting shown up

At this rate we will be lucky to get 5 bob for at the end of the year from Mr Crowe

Lost alot of attacking direction from BJ when he went off injured. Boys look to him to call the play and take control, I agree no one wanted to stand up and take his place when he went off. Also boys looked slow from the start. Jeffries takes on a lot when attacking on the line, Bk again played well and alot of effort, Diskin and Health put in solid efforts, but was left with no play maker when Bj went off. Hopefully he will be back after 2-3 weeks, but not looking forward to games ahead without him, as he has been the one to create alot for us. Boys simply looked lossed in attack with out him. Errors came from panic, not knowing what they had to do next with all. Sammut good player but not a 7 as he cant organise and doesnt talk. Know this log been all about BJ, but really believe we did miss him in attack, we had loads of chances in 2nd half to come back and beleive he would of been the difference.
