Bradford Bulls up and running

Castleford 12 Bulls 20

Tries from Jarrod Sammut, Tom Burgess and Brett Kearney handed the Bulls their first victory of the new Stobart Super League at a snow-bound Castleford.

Sammut touched down a fine pass from Kearney in the 10th minute and Burgess added a second from close range on the stroke of half-time.

Luke Gale, Bradford's creative fulcrum throughout with some excellent kicking, converted both scores to put his side 12-0 up at the break.

Castleford battered the Bulls' line for long periods in both halves but Mick Potter's men defended doggedly to keep them at bay.

Ian Millward's side scored through Josh Griffin in the 50th minute but a penalty from Gale gave the Bulls breathing space before they grabbed a late third from Kearney to cap a superb afternoon's work.

The Tigers replied in the dying embers through Richard Owen but the Bulls were already home and dry.

Now that is a performance to be proud of, I don't care what anyone says. Our goal line defense was spot on even with 12 men and the last cas try was imo a bit of a fluke. I wasn't there today much to my disappointment as I had to look after my poorly little girl however, I did listen to it on my laptop and was chuffed to bits with the commentary. Before anyone comments, I am not getting carried away but I thought all the lads played well despite the condition and roll on Wigan next week

Gale was all the difference today in attack for me ! defense muscled up well Cas are no mugs & we forced the errors so many times. Well done lads Potter looked a relieved man ! Up & on ,Hemsworth is spot on its only one game but the difference between losing today & wining could inspire us in the coming weeks.

So how good was the performance? I wasn't there but to win at Cas ain't that easy! Was there enough in the performance to suggest that we hav made some strides since last yr, or will it be, one week decent, followed by a couple of bad performances. Will be at the Wigan game next wk n hope to see the effort and passion there seems to have been in todays game.
Very happy to see the win and 2points on the board!

Defence was rock solid and vas threw every trick in book at us. We were unlucky not to score 3 or 4 more tries. Big improvement on last week and that's with a ref who did us no favours.

I went to the game this afternoon and there was lots of passion from the lads. We thoroughly deserved the win today - we tackled brilliantly, especially when Cas were near our line.
Worrying that both Donno and Purtell went off and didn't return but hopefully everything is OK.
We should hopefully (fingers crossed) have Lulia and Prycey next Sunday.
Thoroughly looking forward to Wigan next week and I hope the lads put in as much effort as they did today.
Fantastic.

Important we got off the mark this week. Only listened to the game but seemed that out pack had more grunt this week, hope they can carry it on next week but still think we need better backrowers than sibbet etc if we're gunna match teams like wigan

First rate defensive effort today. Need to improve by some margin in attack but a wins a win and I don't want to split hairs as it was a superb defensive effort and no lack of passion. More please!

The Bulls played out of their skins today and defended brilliantly.Yes, Attack could do with a bit of polishing but we deserved a win today. I for one am very proud of their efforts today & credit where credit is due. WELL DONE THE BULLS :-) COYB

Bulls beat Cas and suddenly they are champions of the world?
Bulls will be closer to the bottom than they will be to the playoffs this year.

Well done Bulls. I don't expect us to beat Wigan. BUT ... we can give them a good game and the odsal crowd need to play our part by drowning out the pie-eater's mob (who always cheer loudly). Odsal can be so quiet; we must get behind the team. We have some cracking players still to come in. We can make the playoffs if we want it enough. The lads did brilliantly today; now the crowd have to get behind them. COYB!

Seems "Potter for the
sack" you were'nt at game to today as the action did'nt finish till around 5:10pm, unless you flew back on your private jet today?

What stuck in mind today from watching the warm up and the game itself is that the all the guys were all talking to each other and "geeing each other up".
Also the warm up was meaningful and all the guys tore into each other in the tackling warm up.Because of this the team tackled as a full unit throughout the game.
Nice to see two proper half-backs playing together for the first time for 3-4 seasons?
Only down side of the whole game was "Donaldson" who got injuried whilst making a great break.Should have passed the ball though and then taken the reverse ball back and that's how he got hurt .Still think this kid is a real prospect, who we need to keep fit and on the pitch and playing more game time.
"Putill" I suspect looked uncomfortable because of illness through the first half and it looked more like he was unwell than injuried and never returned in next half.

Plus point, I thought "Hargreaves & Scruton played with more purpose today, & my vote today for M.O.M went to "Whitehead" who played seamlessly and link up great with the attacks through out the match.
Just wished "Kearney" wouldnt let the high balls bounce when Cas attacked.

Still alot more postives and something for the team to work on for next week.
Roll on Wigan now.

Well. back to the 'city board' you and the rest of the other fifth columnists - sad to say I wasn't there but my guess is neither was this poster along with the likes of 'fedupof..., Strutter (probably still weepin' at his LS6 losers - come on Manly) Cale and all the others that will be a little quieter (thank the lord!) - They'll reappear next week with us having the Pies in our sights. No, beating Cas DON'T make us Champions of the world VoR, though how you'd know totally escapes me!
.
Well done Bulls - if this win upsets you - GOOD!

good solid performance in defence, though we still let them make too many yards, while we didn't make many. but a win is a win.
whitehead was very good today and i dont remember seeing burgess drop the ball. just hope they can keep the momentum going and show the same sort of desire next week. well done lads

Let's not get carried away. Yes we played well and the tackling was worth the entrance fee alone. Was Thaler that bad? or was it the usual poor discipline? That pitch was a real leveller, which left the man of steel unable to weave the magic of last season. We fronted up all over the pitch. Sadly Walker will probably be dropped in favour of Lulia and rightly so, he offers very little IMO. Gale was the orchestrator of most of the prompting ably helped by Sammut. Gale was class, We haven't seen that sort of kicking out of hand since Henry Paul. Bradford looked a different team from that which embarrassed us last week. Worthy winners at last.

You can't ask for much more, a win down t'lane. A bit of pride back. Now to continue the momentum and back it up with a solid performance against Wigan.

Bullsman says...
11:44pm Sun 12 Feb 12

To answer your question kennyr13, I thought Thaler was appauling, and its not often you abuse the ref after a win is it? The penalty couny was like 7-2 to cas, before I lost count. But on the otherhand I thought there was really improvement from the lads today. A really gritty and gusty performance. Rock solid defense and a bit of flair in attack. But the most pleasing aspect, as some have mentioned on here was the perfomance and the effort from the whole squad. Finger cross Donno and Purtell's injuries aren't anything serious and Lulia and Pryce to come back. Worryingly though I saw Pyrce walking round before the game and mum thought he looked out of breath going up some stairs.

Good solid defence by the Bulls was the reason for the win.The lads all played for each other and they also took their chances well. The last try for Cas was from a blatant forward pass so the magin of the win was greater than the score suggests. If we can repeat this performance consistantley we will win more than we lose. The support for the lads was great all the way through, well done Bulls fans, for those who dont attend away games this is not new,the fans are much more vocal on the road.I suspect no one is getting carried away and there is still work to do but today it shows that this team is not as bad as the cynics suggest.Keep the faith COYB.

Crystal balls and not much between?
Cas are one of the teams to beat this year not the odds on win they used to be.
