8:30am Monday 6th February 2012 in Bulls By Ross Heppenstall
Bulls coach Mick Potter admitted his side came up short after they were emphatically defeated 34-12 in their Super League opener at home to Catalan Dragons.
Potter fielded four debutants in Adrian Purtell, Elliot Kear, Jarrod Sammut and Luke Gale but the French visitors were simply too strong up front and too vibrant in the backs.
They outscored the Bulls by six tries to two after playing, coaching and administrative staff had worked hard clearing snow from the pitch and terraces from early morning yesterday to ensure the game went ahead.
Former Bradford hooker Ian Henderson led from the front as the understrength visitors, missing Leon Pryce and a clutch of other injured players, dominated the physical battle, affording half-backs Setaimata Sa and Scott Dureau the freedom to play.
Potter said: “We were beaten down the middle, so it does worry us. There were times where we showed a bit of fight but overall the other team got the better of us.”

They were soft, easily bossed and reluctant to tackle. Langley, Scrutes, Sibbet, Hargreaves and Tom B were pushovers today. Elima appears to be the only forward we have with any aggression.
We need to get the props sorted out. Potter needs to tell them already they are playing for their future. Scruton, Hargreeves & Kopjack were a joke yesterday. No aggresion or anything. Dominated in the tackle and killed at the ruck by Henderson. We should know all about that little runt as he was a good player for us.
.
Until we can get the pack motivated and hitting hard in D and running hard with aggresion we will win Sweet FA.
.
The Pack lost us the game and didnt want to know, we need Elima & Whitehead urgently. Scuton & Hargreves should be dropped. Play langley @ prop n bring Joseph on to the bench. with Donaldson starting at 13.

This team is better than what we saw yesterday. The worry for me is that it does come down to the man I have given my support to – and that is Potter. I gave him 6 weeks to prove he has done his job. Yesterday’s performance looks like nothing has changed. 7 games will go by very quickly and that is a quarter of the season. The problem is that if things don’t improve over the next 2 months or so Mick will be finished even if he does stay till August. Can we really spend the money we received from the RFL on paying off the coaches as in my eyes all three would need to go? Doing that mid season hardly ever works!
I came away yesterday actually feeling sorry for Hood. Like him or dislike him he has backed Potter. We are spending the cap this year and he doesn’t meddle in the coach’s job. The majority of supporters did like the signing of Potter. The directors must have been gutted and concerned last night as we all are. They must also be wondering whether they may need to make a big decision in the coming future.
At this moment I conclude that we stay calm and support the lads to the hilt – but there is a limit, even for me. I would not take any snap decisions and see what the situation is in May. If it hasn’t improved I would then look for a young Ausie assistant coach who wants his first head coaching job in the same way Wigan did with McGuire two years ago. I wouldn’t panic and cry for Lowes, Noble, Kear or even Elliot. We are stuck with this team of players and coaches. It is up to them to save their jobs. They have two months to do that. If they don’t, then we get good advice and start interviewing young, strong coaches who can come in and kick a*se.

Bone_idle18 wrote:My thoughts exactly Bone Idle, I wonder if there is something going on with MP/Briggs that we are not aware of - what has this lad done? He made a great start to last season against Leeds, then went to London on loan hopefully to give him more game time, suffered an injury and didnt settle. He said that he wanted to come back to Bulls and fight for his place, and then without a chance in the first team he has gone to Fev, this lad should be playing his rugby at Odsal.
I'm starting to question Potter, why has he shipped Briggs to Fev? Last season, on the few rare chances he got, he seems capable of making something happen, injecting a spark and just looked busy and eager (unlike a lot of the team), I really think he must have some personally differences with Potter, can't see any other reason he shouldn't be starting every week. . I don't think you should bring your personal issues to work, so Potter is failing on that count. . How many other players are having issues? Wonder if there's something behind the scenes making the players not want to put their bodies on the line for the coach?

I agree people are entitled to view their opinions and moan, jeer, boo, call for the players/coaches/ board to go but I think by insinuating we have a defence coach some people are just going a bit too far !!!!!!!!!!!

To all my fan club,
I hope you can remember my posts from last season I told you potter was a cabbage then and guess what he still is? All he's done is sign journey men hoping they would gell and make him look like an half descent coach, same old same old ****.
Trent Robinson in just one season turned catalan dragons round.
Michael McGuire turned Wigan round in one season but are friend, mr potter is now on his third, and by the way we played yesterday it will be his last In charge!!!

Couple of questions for you if you care to answer them. Outside of Sibbit, who do you consider are our so called 'journey men'?
.
Bye the way Potter turned Catalans round like Trent Robinson seems to have.
.
You say Potter is now in in third season, remind me how we finished in the League at the end of his second term?
.
Always good to see your posts gemma- you make i laughhhh! Such deep knowledge about our simple game, is that what attracts you? (oops! thats 3 questions luv, sorry to confuse you)

Mr Sheffield bull
I think you must have miss interpreted what I said about journey men!
What I ment was how many journeys they have made to the physio room .
the players mick potter has signed are all injury prone cast offs that nobody else wants
. I think you must shine mick potters shoes on match day ,or live next door to him! There is a lot of people on here giving mick potter stick !
So you will be busy!
trying to fight his corner . Happy tapping !,,,,,,,,, and has for you blackpool bull stick to candyfloss and donkey rides.
Buy the way Sheffield ! Give me a laugh where do you think we're going to finish !
