Bulls chairman Peter Hood told fans last night that the RFL’s purchase amount of Odsal did not amount to a “bail-out” as Mick Potter admitted that results will determine his fate this season.

Both men were speaking at the latest members’ forum in the Coral Stand, where supporters turned out to seek answers following last week’s sale of the club’s iconic home.

It was announced last week that the RFL had bought out the remaining 140 years of the club’s 150-year lease on Odsal.

Hood revealed that the terms of the deal were agreed in November and signed in December, but dismissed out of hand suggestions that the move spared Bradford from serious financial problems.

It was also revealed that trialist Phil Joseph had been awarded a one-year contract and that the Bulls were confident of keeping Elliott Whitehead beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of 2013.

Asked about the RFL’s purchase of Odsal, Hood said: “In these recessionary times, a financial deal of this kind is extremely welcome, but no, it wasn’t a bail-out.

“Had this deal not been done, we almost certainly would have stayed at Odsal.

“Could we have done? Yes, absolutely.”

Asked about the RFL’s plans for Odsal, Hood added: “The RFL have said they have no immediate plans but I’m sure that in the longer term they share the vision that we all share about what the stadium might potentially be.

“When we get to the other side of this recession, the club and the RFL will certainly be looking at what opportunities come along.”

Chief executive Ryan Duckett, who said the club’s final pledge figure of 10,100 was around ten per cent down on last year, added: “The RFL were keen to take the sting out of the idea of a ‘Wembley of the north’.

“But I think moving forward that the RFL, the Council, the club and all the other stakeholders will have meetings about, maybe not an Odsal sports village, but ways that the site can be developed for the good of the club and the game.”

Potter, meanwhile, accepted the need for improvement in 2012, the second year of his two-year deal, as the Bulls look to re-establish themselves in the play-offs.

Asked about staying beyond this season, he said: “I’d certainly consider it but it will depend on results.

“I like working at Bradford and I love doing the job – there isn’t many of them in the world.”

Potter expects Matt Diskin and Heath L’Estrange to be fit for Sunday’s clash with Catalan Dragons but admitted Keith Lulia could miss out due to a hamstring injury.

The Bulls have covered the pitch as they look to beat the expected big freeze.

"We didn't have to sell it, but we did." " We prefer to pay market rates for renting the ground rather than the previous peppercorn." "The RFL have no immediate plans to improve the dire state of the ground." "We now have no equity to raise any significant amount of cash." "We are not in financial trouble."
Sorry???????

How do you know how much rent we paid the council ? dont know if you were at the forum but Hood answered the questions in a clear & positive manner & I found him to be genuine in his reasons to sell the lease. Tricky how would we ever raise revenue in the future keeping the lease ? who else would be interested in buying the ground lease other than a developer which in turn could lead to the Bulls no longer at Odsal.

We as supporters do not run the club we support it so why not leave it up to those that do run the club to run it !

Why are we in financial trouble we spend the full cap , our lease is now owned by the games ruleing body so what is the problem. Would the club ever be able to raise the money to build a new stadium before ? I think no chance or it would have been done by now. So with the RFL behind us we have more hope than before.

Time will tell but until then look forward to a new season & what it brings if you dont want to that then you can always stay at home.

selling the family silver and then renting it back can lead to an even worse position that existed before. Just look at VP.

ARE THE THE RFL CHARGING A COMMERCIAL RENT AND HOW MUCH IS THAT AND WHAT PERCENTAGE IS IT BASED ON THEIR PURCHASE PRICE.

WHAT ARE THE CLUB GOING TO DO WITH THE CASH RECEIVED?

PAY OFF CREDITORS, PAY BACK THE DIRECTORS FOR THEIR LOANS OR WHAT?

does not appear as though these matters were discussed?

In what way does it 'not appear these matters were not discussed?'
.
You obviously have some 'inside track' into the details of the deal, the Directors personal investments and Sports stadia rental valuations - maybe you may wish to share them with us along with some testimonials as to your expertise in these matters. I look forward to your response.

Sad to see that Keith Lulia could miss out on Sunday.

I know nothing of the detail but this deal somehow just feels right. There just feels to be more stability now that the lease has been sold to the RFL rather than having the constant pressure from opportunist developers wanting to turn the ground into a building site for their own gain. There has to be NO doubt now that RL will remain at Odsal whereas no one could have said that a few weeks back with any certainty. That in itself has to be a good thing for the club and it's supporters.Maybe now we can start attracting the right personnel and have a decent team in a year or two?,

Que sera, sera! History will be the ultimate judge. But telling people to stay at home rather than paying to be entertained at a sporting event is not quite what I think the Board of Directors have in mind. That is of course, unless they are venture captalists.

Agreed tyker. They must really be strapped for cash to do a deal like this.

No commercial sense in doing such a deal unless it was to pay pressing debts for a short term fix.

The bird of paradise will surely come home to roost on this one.

The way I interpret what Mr Hood is saying, is that there are people out there who may have been interested in taking control of Bulls/Odsal and moving the Bulls away from Odsal. We only have to look back at Steve Parkin's 'plan' to have the Bull's and City play at one ground until a 'purpose built Stadium' was built!

It appears the Bulls are now safe from being moved from Odsal, and if that's the case and that's what the fans want then I'm pleased for them.

I suppose the ground is now 'unbuyable' because the RFL intend it to stay as the Home of the Bulls. That's the way I read it anyway. If a new owner had to buy-out the lease in order to be able to move from Odsal then that may no longer be an option?
