Ox ready to run with Bulls

Matt Orford should make his Bulls debut in Thursday night’s trial match at Hull KR (8pm).

The Aussie scrum half features in a strong side for the final friendly before Bradford’s season opener at Huddersfield on February 5.

Danny Sculthorpe and Michael Platt are the only first-team squad members ruled out, with both set to miss the early stages of the Super League cam-paign.

Utility back Platt will have his leg brace removed next week as he con-tinues his recovery from a knee prob-lem, while Sculthorpe is still strug-gling with a back injury.

Both are expected to be out for around three weeks.

Bulls team to face Hull KR: Dave Halley; Rikki Sheriffe, Paul Sykes, Chris Nero, Stuart Reardon; Brett Kearney, Matt Orford; Andy Lynch, Heath L’Estrange, Nick Scruton, Glenn Hall, Jamie Langley, Steve Menzies. Replacements: Craig Kopczak, Wayne Godwin, James Donaldson, Elliott Whitehead, Mike Worrincy, Jason Crookes.

good to see 4 young uns on the bench. it doesn't look a bad side at all, though the pairing of sykes, sheriffe, could be at bit weak, but who knows. ox and kearney will create more space for the 3/4s and 2nd rowers to hit those gaps at speed.

this match will be a real pointer to the coming season. but as i always say win or loose, still get your booze.

Well as pre-season hit out and the last before SL starts, both coachs will want to see Winter progress, the scoreline will only matter if there is too big a gap.No injuries and as we will get them, hopefully just niggles.

6,7.9,13 should be enough to make different players out of sykes and sheriffe! Even Platt will look like a world beater when he comes back providing he's learnt to catch the ball!

hope they ain't just using ox to get fans along as they so blatently did at leeds.
One would think he must have an outing before S/L though, and this is the last chance. Strong side on paper(right wing excepted) but lets be fair and give the lads a chance to show what they can do before we start knocking.

Interesting to see that Langley has been moved to the second row and Menzies at Loose Forward. Menzies offering more in attack and Langley sheering up the defence on the flanks with Hall on the opposite side. Normally I'd be worried about Sykes/Sheriffe pairing but the backrower inside Sykes should make that right hand side a bit more secure.

Looks like a space is being created for Donaldson - hope he is ready for it. I know his tackling is exceptional but we need to see him use his ball skills as well. See you at HKR!

It's a better side than they put out all last season but it's a friendly and the score matters little. The main objective is to gell and remain injury free plus get a little more fitness prior to the one that matters on Feb5. I can't help looking at that 3/4 line though and it doesn't look good. Hope I'm wrong. I do see Reardon as a really good signing so he might be the exception.

Menzies was usually out there last season aswell though with Sheriffe and Sykes, but anyhow, Langleey is a solid defender anyhow.

Think it's better for Menzies to be 13 anyway as he's more mobile than Langley, it also gives us opportunity to straight swap Beaver for rest and Donno for game time.

I also like the idea of Menzies at L/F with Langley 2nd row. It's shaping up but I still wonder why Macca has not named a Captain. Surely he should be in place and bonding with the team by now. There's only 10 days to kick off and all others seem to have their Captain in place.

I wouldn't wonder Haitch. The Bulls and Macca will already know who the captain is.

I think it will be Orford.

I'm only wondering because he hasn't told us. I hope you are right Orfords the man.
