Orford's Bulls debut delayed

Matt Orford will have to wait before making his Bradford Bulls debut after missing out on today's trip to Leeds Rhinos.

The Aussie scrum half had originally been selected in a 21-man squad for Matt Diskin's testimonial match but has not been included in the matchday line-up.

It was always going to be a race against time for Orford to get up to speed for the Headingley clash, having only been with the club two weeks.

Bulls boss Steve McNamara is keen not to rush his star signing into action due to his relative lack of training time.

Instead, Brett Kearney starts at scrum half, where he impressed in the Boxing Day friendly against Castleford, with Paul Sykes at stand-off.

Bulls: Dave Halley; Rikki Sheriffe, Jason Crookes, Chris Nero, Stuart Reardon; Paul Sykes, Brett Kearney; Nick Scruton, Heath L'Estrange, Andy Lynch, Michael Worrincy, Jamie Langley, Steve Menzies. Replacements: Wayne Godwin, Glenn Hall, James Donaldson, Elliott Whitehead, Craig Kopczak, Tom Olbison, Danny Addy.

Rhinos: Kallum Watkins; Scott Donald, Brett Delaney, Michael Coady, Ryan Hall; Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow; Kylie Leuluai, Matt Diskin, Luke Burgess, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Ali Lauitiiti, Kevin Sinfield. Replacements: Jay Pitts, Danny Buderus, Kyle Amor, Luke Ambler, Paul McShane, Chris Clarkson.

Feel sure many who travel to headingley to see matt orford will feel very disapointed by his absence.
sure they could have announced this earlier. just another case of fans being duped by bulls. Always said these pre season games were a farce not worth attending.

You've got a point franklyn. Whilst I agree it always looked a bit soon for Orford. The Bulls do themselves no favours by announcing to their fans he's in the squad and then waiting ti'll minutes before the game to publish in the T&A he's not going. It begins to look to be a marketing ploy to get as many fans as possible to attend. Make yer own minds up.

Best not risk Orford in what can only be classed as a practice match.

Agreed. It's best he was left out but the point is, why announce him as playing?. That was deliberately misleading.

I was looking forward to seeing Orford today but I guess it's best not to rush him.

Decent performance today by the Bulls. Kearney looks a fantastic player and when the ground hardens up I'm sure we'll see the best of him.

Buderus took us to the cleaners a couple of times, the first leading to their try in the opening half.

It was encouraging to see Reardon do well today, really deserved his try. We look to have alot more pace in the side now, its looking good for 2010.

Heard it all before about Jeffries aswell - wait till the hard ground etc etc.

To be fair though he did have a good game and looks a hell of a lot better than BJ.

Looking fwd to seeing the OX today, the heavy condition of the pitch would have shown any player up that was'nt fit. It did'nt spoil my enjoyment of a game that was played in the spirit of a testimonial although both teams were on the edge of competative at times. Kearney looks like a real find, very quick, good kicking game, inventive, good engine. Heath at 9 plays like HENDO, The Bulls looked fit and finished the game strong which is very encouraging. Was impressed with the tackling and the general structure of the Bulls, Where does the Beaver get his energy from, should be Captain no question leads by example. Leeds looked a bit in front of us in terms of fitness and general play, there 2nd try was a sinfield knock on. a couple of cheap shots by mcguire & jones were missed by the officials. Humerous moment of the match, awaiting sinfields conversion the Bulls crowd singing Kylie is a girls name in which K.L responded with a couple of wiggles, nice one. congratulations to Diskin on his testimonial good turn out by both sets of fans. Looking forward to the start with renewed optimism.
