Ahead of this weekend's sixth round League 1 away match against Workington Town, Luke Hopkins spoke to Bradford Bulls' Stand-off Brandon Pickersgill about how the team is preparing for the game and his experience of moving up from the Bradford Bulls Academy to the first team.

How important was the win over Hunslet this Easter Monday?

"The win massively helped us. It was a big win not only in continuing what we've doing so far this season but in terms of giving certain players a rest.

"The players that came in, though, staked a claim for more game time, which is a good problem for John to have.

"They showed what they can do and created no harm for themselves in the performance they created."

How have you found moving up from the Bulls Academy?

"It's been good, although it was quite tough at the start. This was because the players I was coming up against were more physically tough, as you'd expect from first-team Rugby League.

"Now I've got mileage and it's become smoother over time.

"I learnt a lot in the Academy, from coaches like John Bastian, and I've taken that with me to the first team."

How do you think you've changed working with John and the rest of the staff been like?

"I've changed quite a lot, I'm a lot more vocal than I was in the Academy. They've only helped me evaluate as a player due to their huge experience.

"All players are different but working with the coaches on a day-by-day basis is massively important.

"What has stood out to me is how I need to be vocal from my position to aid the team's confidence."

Workington Town away this Sunday. How do you feel the squad have been preparing for the game?

"The team has been preparing well in training, plugging away.

"We noted the four games down over the Easter period as a source of points to maintain our position in the league and we're looking to add another two points to our tally."

What's the team's attitude towards promotion?

"The attitude is that we're very grounded, taking it game by game. Sometimes the scorelines have been flattening of us, as the games have been very tough for us.

"We know that having the wrong attitude can lead us to away from our objectives."

Before the end of the season, how would you like to improve as a player?

"I just want to improve my overall game, whatever comes first.

"I don't think anyone is prefect as a player, which many players would agree with, so I'm looking to improve whilst helping the team gain promotion at the end of the season."
