FIRM pitches may seem months rather than weeks away, but Dane Chisholm says Bulls are not going to sacrifice their flair.

The influential half-back created two tries in a mudbath that they had no right to score in their 34-10 fourth-round Ladbrokes Challenge Cup victory at Hunslet on Easter Monday.

Firstly he floated a long pass in the first half that was tantalisingly out of reach of the Parksiders' defence and gave left winger Ethan Ryan just enough time and space to plant the ball into the base of the corner flag.

Then the Australian's pin-point kick bounced perfectly for right winger Josh Rickett to score in the right-hand corner in the second half.

Chisholm said: "Everybody compresses their defensive line when it is wet and jammed up, and we have to play what we see, otherwise we are just going to be one of those teams that does five and drive and kick, and that is not us.

"We play what we see, and we were lucky enough to have a couple of opportunities and took them.

"We had a couple more that we didn't pull off but at least we got good results from them in that we got a line drop-out or we got the ball back."

Although the South Leeds Stadium pitch was significantly better than that at Castleford Tigers, who lost in a mud bath against Bulls' next cup opponents Warrington, it still presented problems for both sides, who coped remarkably well.

Chisholm said: "The field just got worse and worse and we were trying to stick away from the middle because it was that muddy.

"We played a lot down my side of the field on the left because there was more traction there.

"We got enough quick play-the-balls where we had penalties and we got points on the board."

However, Chisholm, who praised team-mate Matty Garside for his "100 carries and 100 tackles", realises that there is a weakness that the Bulls have displayed in both of their Easter matches.

He said: "That is two games in a row now where we haven't really started well in the second half, and is one of the only things that we need to address.

"We can't be starting second halves like that because it just gives teams that leg-up and makes it harder for us and I am sure that JK (head coach John Kear) will talk about that, but we are just happy to have the win."
