GEOFF Toovey has promised not to hang about making a decision on his Bulls future.

The coach signed off the season yesterday with a 72-16 crushing of Rochdale at Odsal, a fifth win in the final six games.

There was also uplifting post-match news as it was announced that Dane Chisholm had signed a two-year extension to commit to the club.

But as the Bulls face up to relegation and starting next year in League One, Toovey’s own position remains up in the air.

He said: “The club are super keen for me to stay, it’s just a matter of weighing up what’s best for both parties, on and off the field. But there’s definitely a chance.

“For everyone concerned, the sooner (it’s decided) the better. We don’t want to be hanging around.”

The prospect of coaching in the third tier would be an eye-opener for the NRL legend and he admits that is a factor in his thinking.

“There’s no doubt with that and it’s probably the same with me and the players,” he added. “Most of the players next year will be part time as well.

“It’s a bit of a status thing for the club and for everyone involved.

“But I know the owners are very committed and very positive about the future of the club. They are definitely here to turn it around and make sure it gets to the heights where it should be.

“It’s been a great experience for me. I’m still not 100 per cent about where I’m going to be next year.

“Things have turned round significantly since the place went in receivership and nobody had a job and there was no football team.

“While it’s been a challenging year, it’s been a year where we’ve all learned something whether it’s been players, coaches or employees.

“I believe that for rugby league to be successful here, it needs a Bradford in the competition.

“You’ve got a great fan following and it’s a great institution for football. I’d hate to see it not be put back to the heights it should be.”

Bulls ran riot against a weakened Rochdale to run in 13 tries – with 11 different scorers.

Centre Ross Oakes was among those, returning from a four-month injury absence to celebrate signing a new deal last week.

Toovey said: “Ross has been out several months but he’s here next year and that’s fantastic.

“I was a bit concerned because Lee Smith was a late withdrawal on Thursday because of some knee problems. But he came through with flying colours.

“There are a lot of players going but they performed as they have done for the last five or six weeks with energy and commitment.

“There was nothing to play for except for pride but I think they did a fantastic job with their focus.

“I was a bit concerned on Thursday after training because they were terrible. But to their credit, they’ve turned that around.”

Damian Sironen suffered a broken jaw early in the game.

Rochdale coach Alan Kilshaw said: “You’ve got to credit Bradford. Week one they were gone and they’ve finished really strong.

“Hopefully the nucleus of that side can stay. I know (head of youth) John Bastian well and he’s got some good young lads.”
