LEE Smith wants to play his part in helping get the Bulls "back where they belong".

A knee injury has curtailed most of the full back's season after the former Leeds star joined from Leigh in February.

Having returned to action in recent weeks, he is keen to remain at the club and help them bounce straight back from League One next year.

Smith, who is from Morley, said: "Like I said when I first signed here, I was one of the fortunate ones to play in the big derbies (between the Bulls and Rhinos).

"For me they were unbelievable to play in and I think everyone in rugby would miss them, not just me and not just the Leeds and Bradford fans.

"We want to be get back up there and be challenging the top teams again – but we know it's going to be a long way to go to get to that.

"I'm on board. It's my second home-town club, as you could call it, and I'm pleased to be here. I want to stay with the club and try to help them get back where they belong."

Smith signed a two-year deal but he is waiting for clarification on his position following relegation and the club's move to a hybrid full-time/part-time model next season.

"We'll have to sit down and talk about all that and it will sort itself out," said the 31-year-old former England international.

"There is not much I can do about it and I don't think there is much the club can do about it at the moment.

"Once they decide on what is happening, we'll crack on from there and then make a decision.

"I've not played too many games this season so I just want to get as many in as possible."

Smith has enjoyed two victories out of three since returning to the side for the Championship Shield competition. He is beginning to regain match fitness but admits he is still playing catch-up after a long lay-off.

He said: "My knee is all right. It is not great and I could probably do with a full pre-season under my belt.

"I've got to try and get through these last few games and hopefully finish the season on a high before a short little break and then I'll be back into a good pre-season."

The Bulls' triumph at Swinton was the first time they have won back-to-back league games since March but Smith rejected the theory that confirmation of relegation had given them a freedom to play without pressure.

"It's always been difficult from day one when he had a 12-point deduction, so the pressure has never really been properly on," he said.

"Each week is each week and we just try and prepare for that. I know its an old cliche but that's what we do."

Meanwhile, Neil Henry has been sacked as coach of Gold Coast Titans. Bulls chief Geoff Toovey has been linked with the NRL club, along with Kevin Walters of Queensland.
