GEOFF Toovey felt his pack proved a point after fronting up as the Bulls gained revenge on Swinton.

Bradford triumphed at Heywood Road for the second time this season, yesterday's 30-16 win in the Championship Shield following on from a 35-28 success at the start of the regular campaign.

But they lost 16-6 at Odsal a month ago in a match which all but sealed their relegation as the Lions forwards held the edge. This time it was Bradford who showed more aggression, which pleased Toovey.

"I think both sides lacked a bit of finesse and threat out wide, so I think our forwards did an extremely good job," he said.

"They were probably the dominant pack. We knew that we got pushed around a bit the last time we played them, so I think they had a point to prove and they did that yesterday."

Victory at Swinton's adopted home of rugby union team Sale FC was the first time the Bulls have won consecutive league games since they beat Batley and Dewsbury back in March.

Having beaten Oldham the previous week, Toovey wants to finish with a flourish by winning all their remaining Shield games and said: "It would be a real positive for the season to finish with four more wins.

"The players are playing for each other and producing some good football and playing as a team.

"I thought the defence showed that against Swinton. Although some of the tackles were a bit 'clunky', I thought they were outstanding.

"Lions made a lot of ball possession towards the end of the game in the second half and to hold them out the way we did on the line, set after set, I think they should be proud of themselves."

Toovey also praised makeshift half-back pairing Cory Aston and Scott Moore, with the skipper having to switch from hooker after Oscar Thomas was withdrawn early following an ankle injury.

The Bulls head coach said: "We had a couple of injuries to some backs (Joe Keyes was already out with a calf strain), which put us off-kilter a little bit.

"We had to replace in the halves after 20 minutes, with Scott Moore moving there and he had a good game.

"Cory Aston had a great game. I asked him to run the ball and I think he did that. He was a bit isolated in the field after Oscar had to come off and he had to take more of kicking role.

"All in all, with having only one specialist half on the field, I thought we did a great job."

Meanwhile, Toovey dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Leeds Rhinos.

He said: "There is no truth in that. They are only rumours. I've been linked to the New South Wales job and I've been linked to the Gold Coast job.

"I've been linked everywhere but I'm sure that the truth will come out hopefully in the next few weeks and I'll be able to make a firm decision as to where I will be."
