GEOFF Toovey says still trying to win matches for the rest of the season will take priority over blooding youngsters.

With the Bulls now unable to escape the Championship relegation zone, there is an opportunity to give more experience to the club's under-19s in the remaining Championship Shield fixtures when results won't alter the club's fate.

But the head coach wants to end another disappointing campaign with some victories and said that would dictate his selection plans first and foremost.

He said: "It is something I will have to contemplate over the next few weeks because it is important for the longevity of the club that we look at the players of the future, but at the same time I want to win so I’m going to probably play the best team that is available to me.

"If that means there are a couple of younger guys in the team then I’ll do that but I'll put the best team that we can put out on the field each week because I want to win and Bradford expects me to try to put a winning team out."

Toovey refused to speculate on his future at the Bulls beyond this season, saying: "Next year is next year. I’m just concentrating on this year and finishing off the best we can."

He is hoping Willie Tonga will be fit for Sunday's trip to Oldham after the Australian international injured his calf the day before the Toulouse defeat.

The Bulls chief said: "It was very disappointing. He tweaked a calf on the captain's run. He couldn’t play on Sunday but we're hoping he will be all right for this week.

"It was a pretty disappointing blow for the team and sums up the luck we've had with injuries."
