BRADFORD Bulls Women's boss Mark Prescott hopes his side's Challenge Cup triumph puts "a smile on people's faces."

The Bulls defeated Featherstone Rovers 50-16 in Sunday's final, maintaining their unbeaten run as coach Geoff Toovey watched on in a crowd of over 1,000.

And with over 800 of those estimated to be Bradford fans, Prescott believes the occasion helped the club in more ways than one.

"The support was absolutely fantastic," he said. "The girls said it actually kept them going, because at some points in the game we had to dig deep.

"With everything else that's been going on, it's been really difficult to keep that engagement between the men's game and women's going.

"But I think Sunday really opened some people's eyes as to how much quality there is in the women's game.

"For those who were there, after a couple of seasons of disappointment, there's some comfort there that there are still some good things going on at Bradford.

"And to win a trophy when the men have been going through the mill a little bit put a smile on people's faces."

Despite their struggles, the Bulls – along with sponsor Provident – have continued to support their women's section, and their investment is paying dividends.

Prescott's side remain unbeaten in all competitions this campaign and they now have their eyes on the league crown.

"I suppose you've got to start thinking about the double now," he said.

"We're approaching holiday season, which might have an impact, but I'm confident we can keep the run going.

"Whether we'll go unbeaten and get to the Grand Final we'll see, but I'm confident we can keep the momentum."

Bulls beat Thatto Heath St Helens 32-26 in their Super League opener last week, a division that currently consists of only four teams.

But, as Sunday's crowd showed, the women's game is moving in the right direction.

"The game is growing," Prescott said.

"The fact that the top four sides are in the Super League means they will have some really competitive games in the build-up to this year's World Cup, which will be good for the England squad.

"The RFL have plans to grow the Super League into a bigger competition next year too, while the Women's World Cup will be played alongside the men's at the end of the year.

He continued: "Next, it would be great to get a greater tie in with the women's game and the men's so we can tap in to strength and conditioning, medical support and so on.

"I'm hopeful that the game will continue to flourish and grow bigger."
