THE Bulls are keen on keeping hooker Sam Hallas at Odsal.

The 20-year-old loanee from Leeds Rhinos captained the side again in Scott Moore's absence in the weekend loss to Championship leaders Hull KR.

Geoff Toovey revealed the club are considering making a move for the former prop at the end of the season if Leeds do not come up with a new deal.

"I think we're looking at it," said Bulls coach Toovey.

"He does bring some stability to the side, a great work ethic and he's a great club man and football player. We need as many of them as we can. Sam just battles away and he's still up to his 60 tackles a match.

"We had to put him in the back row because of the (injury) losses we had but he did a great job there. He leads by example and he's a quality person."

Toovey is resigned to losing latest casualties Ashley Gibson and Ethan Ryan for the rest of the season. With Dane Chisholm already out for the year and Ross Oakes still sidelined, the Bulls backs have taken a hammering.

Former Kangaroos centre Willie Tonga is waiting in the wings and may be cleared to face Batley on Sunday if the paperwork is finalised.

Toovey said: "I was looking forward to having him and possibly Gibson in centres – but as I said, we put one foot forward and take two steps back. It's disappointing to lose both those players.

"But I said to the players after the match that I was very proud of their performance in the circumstances.

"We need to carry some of this intensity and form into our next few games. We can't go hot and cold like we've done all this year for periods."
