IT WAS arguably the most popular Bulls try of the season.

It was certainly one that Vila Halafihi will not forget in a hurry.

His second-half score at Halifax last Sunday finally broke a three-year scoring duck for the club.

Pouncing on a loose ball 30 metres out, he refused to go down in a tackle before barrelling over the line.

The fact that it happened right under the noses of the travelling Bulls faithful made it all the sweeter for the 23-year-old hooker.

And for Halafihi, it also meant that he gets to keep his clothes on!

For once he will be spared the naked run, the annual end-of-season ritual for those who have not touched down at all.

He laughed: “Thankfully I’m off it now – I’ve done it the past two years. But it’s not fair.

“The first year I was (on loan) at Oxford and scored for them but the boys said it didn’t count. Then last year I scored at Swinton but again they said it didn’t count.

“It’s got to be for the Bulls and it’s got to be in a league game.

“But I’m teeing it up all the time now! I’m asking everyone who hasn’t scored because I’m off it now.

“There are a few sweating but some of the forwards have done well and got one try. They are scraping the barrel.”

With Scott Moore suspended for one more game, Halafihi may get another opportunity to double his tally against Championship leaders Hull KR tomorrow.

It will be an Odsal reunion for several familiar faces as Addy, Ben Kavanagh and Kieron Moss all return to their former club for the first time. Halafihi expects the banter to be flying.

“I’m good mates with Danny Addy, the same as Kav and all the boys who used to be here,” he added.

“There’s not been too much at the moment but I’m sure there will be through the game. Danny never stops talking off the pitch, never mind on it, he’s an absolute nightmare.

“He’s one of my closest friends but I’m pretty sure he’ll be getting into me tomorrow if I’m playing.”

A strong display against a Rovers side unbeaten since Easter Monday would provide a timely nudge to Geoff Toovey. But Halafihi is putting any personal ambitions firmly to one side as the Bulls look to turn the tables.

“I’m just trying to go out there and impact the game as much as I can in any way possible.

“I’m not being selfish and thinking ‘it’s all about me’ and I’ve got to do all this to impress the coach.

“It’s about getting a win, playing as a team. If we win, that will be huge for us because we’ve come close loads of times.

“Yes, it’s a big opportunity but I’m under no illusions. Scotty’s a great player.

“I work with him in training and he teaches me a lot.”

While Hull KR are unbeaten in nine, the Bulls’ relief at beating Oldham in the last home game was short-lived after the Shay loss.

But an indifferent afternoon was lifted by a stirring finish which saw the Bulls score two late tries.

Halafihi added: “We always fight to the end – you look at the KR game (at Blackpool). But we need to start the way we finished.

“This week has probably been the best we’ve had at training. It’s been so intense.

“They are top of the league and for some of the young boys in our team like me, it’s a massive opportunity against some of their players.”
