JAMES Mendeika is hoping the Bulls can spare themselves from watching another video nasty on Monday.

Last week's convincing win over Oldham – their first in ten games – made for a far more pleasant debriefing session with Geoff Toovey.

Having finally got to the elusive zero, his side are aiming to take that momentum into tomorrow's derby clash with Halifax at the Shay.

If they can, it will make much easier viewing for the squad when Toovey sits them down to go through the match film the following day.

Mendeika admitted it has been painful to watch some of the recent defeats back with the coach.

The centre said: "It's terrible when you've not played well. Nobody likes doing it because everyone knows their own mistakes anyway and then you have to watch them again.

"It's about working as team units and figuring out what the person inside you has done wrong or what you could have done to help.

"You review your own personal game as well on a Wednesday, so there's a lot of work going into it. You have to be honest with the group and Geoff tells you quite bluntly if he feels you were in the wrong.

"The video on Monday was a lot nicer than it has been the past few weeks but there were still areas that weren't the best and we need to work on. There was a period in the second half where we went a bit sloppy and they scored a couple of tries."

There has been a noticeable spring in the step around the Tong training ground this week after registering that first victory since April 9.

The Bulls still have it all to do, with a nine-point gap to the second-bottom Roughyeds, but head for bogey side Halifax with heads lifted.

Mendeika said: "Reaching the zero is something that everyone at the club has wanted to get rid of for a long time.

"It should have come a fair few weeks ago but now it's done we can focus on hopefully climbing that table.

"Wins breed confidence and we've needed that for a few weeks. Hopefully we can take that into the Halifax game.

"They didn't have a good result at the weekend, so they'll be coming back off a hard video session themselves."

Halifax's top-four hopes suffered a shock with defeat at Swinton but their recent record against the Bulls is impressive, with five wins in the last six meetings.

Mendeika said: "They always seem to come full of beans when they're playing Bradford. Home or away, they've been good.

"I thought we were relatively good in attack last week – but Halifax are up there in the table, so we'll have to be on our game. It's about staying in that grind. Too often this season we've been hot and cold.

"We talk a lot about mental discipline and it's not been there. Like with the kick-off, where we've knocked it on too many times.

"That's a big pet hate of Geoff's. Rugby is about building momentum and if you can get a team on the back foot, it's quite hard to break it. Too often we've let teams off the hook through our mistakes by giving them cheap penalties.

"We're trying to play hard and smart and not give away those errors. Then you can build the pressure and make them defend their own line for as much of the game as you can."
