AUSSIE Damian Sironen has been backed to bring some “winning swagger” to Odsal after being announced as the Bulls’ latest signing.

The 24-year-old prop will arrive on Monday as Geoff Toovey continues to beef up his resources.

Sironen, who has been playing in the second tier of the NRL, follows yesterday’s capture of Wakefield centre Ashley Gibson.

He has signed until the end of the season but there are talks going on to possibly extend beyond that.

The nephew of league legend Paul, Sironen has experience with four top-grade Aussie clubs but has recently been playing for the Tweed Head Seagulls.

Toovey said: “He’s got some good bloodlines and comes from a couple of teams who have been very successful.

“He will bring a bit of professionalism and winning culture to the club.

“He’s been playing at NSW Cup and Queensland Cup level, which is effectively the second tier of the NRL.

“He’s been part of a couple of winning teams in those divisions and that will bring a lot of confidence with him.

“He’s a middle front rower, with good leg speed and good hand skills and has played at a level which demands you play at your best every week.

“Hopefully he’ll bring that winning attitude and swagger with him.

“I think Damian sees this as an opportunity to expand his horizons in the rugby league world and hopefully advance with the Bradford Bulls to the Super League or catch the eye of someone.”

Gibson, 30, trained with his new club yesterday and is poised for an immediate debut at Halifax on Sunday. His arrival is timely with Ross Oakes ruled out with a knee injury.

Gibson has signed until the end of the 2018 campaign and Toovey is pleased with the extra stability of permanent recruits after a disjointed season with loanees.

Jordan Lilley is missing again this weekend after being recalled by Leeds for last night’s clash with St Helens.

Toovey added: “It’s very difficult to rely so heavily on loan players.

“They’ve all done a fantastic job and we’re really appreciative of the clubs that have lent those players.

“But it does make it difficult when they are taken back because of injuries of suspensions or whatever.

“It’s hard to plan for and having your own contracted players removes that uncertainty around the team.”
