GEOFF TOOVEY insists the odds are still stacked against the Bulls when it comes to avoiding relegation this season.

Bradford finally moved onto zero points after beating Oldham Roughyeds 47-12 at Odsal yesterday.

The victory ended a sequence of nine consecutive losses but the Bulls remain ten points adrift of safety with only 11 league games to play this campaign after both Dewsbury Rams and Swinton Lions also won at the weekend.

Head coach Toovey, who took charge of a home game officially for the first time, said: "Anything is achievable but it is still a very tough task being in the position we are.

"We had a lot of players leaving the club and we started on minus 12 points," he stressed.

"The odds are against us but we are willing to accept the challenge and I think we are capable. It will be difficult but we believe that it is possible."

On wiping out the 12-point penalty, Toovey said: "It's great to be finally at zero!

"It's been a long time coming. To be honest, we played Oldham eight weeks ago and could have pushed to zero if we had won – but they had a break with a minute to go and scored a try for us to lose.

"So it's a bit ironic that we got the win today to finally get to zero."

Toovey admitted that Oldham, who are now next to bottom of the table, were 'off their game' after playing three games in the space of 10 days.

He also highlighted the loss of star player Scott Leatherbarrow, to an early injury, as a major turning point in the game,

"They were off their game and had a lot of changes in their side because of their schedule," he said.

"Losing Leatherbarrow in the first 10 minutes knocked them around more and I think that definitely helped us. They were a very under-strength team.

"But the win is a definite positive," he added. "We have been hanging around on negative two for what seems like an eternity. To get there, finally, is a good boost for the club and the players' confidence.

"We are a bit of a 'confidence side' so when things are going right, we can play some great football.

"But, as soon as things go against us, we drop off and I thought that happened a little bit, but we managed to score a couple of late tries to seal the victory."

Winger Ethan Ryan scored four tries for the first time in his career, while there were also tries for James Bentley (2), Ed Chamberlain (2), and James Mendeika. Oscar Thomas added five conversions and a drop goal.
