GEOFF Toovey says his official unveiling as Bulls head coach is "one positive step" – and has challenged his players to take another one against Rochdale this weekend.

The Australian has finally received his visa after an excruciating five-month delay, and takes charge of his first Bradford encounter on Sunday.

That comes as welcome news to Bulls supporters, who feared the loss of the former Manley Sea Eagles coach as the wait for the official paperwork rumbled on and on.

However, Toovey insists that was never a concern, and has already turned his attentions to ending his side's eight-match losing streak.

He said: "It's not exactly a relief, but it's pleasing that it's out of the way now. It's one less question that always gets answered – or doesn't get answered!

"It was a procedural thing and we had to do the right thing by the laws – we've done that and now we can crack on.

"It was frustrating knowing that it was going to happen but having to go through that time process which dragged on a fair bit.

"My history tells people that I don't walk away from a challenge. This is a very big challenge and we've got a fair task ahead of us unfortunately.

"The last couple of months has been very difficult with injuries and now suspensions, so this is one positive step and hopefully we can take another one by winning at the weekend."

On the challenges ahead, he added: "The players are fairly young and inexperienced. We can deal with adversity but we can't seem to maintain that level of consistency, whether that be during the game or week-to-week.

"So we need to learn how to stay in contests and how to compete for the full 80 minutes. That's very difficult when you've been put in a situation like this."
