NEW head coach Geoff Toovey has called on Bulls fans to keep the faith – and throw their weight behind the ‘Back the Bulls’ campaign.

The long wait for the Australian’s visa has finally ended, allowing Toovey to officially take over the hot seat at Odsal.

But with the club still on minus two points for the season – following their initial 12-point deduction after liquidation – the new boss has it all to do to keep the Bulls in the Kingstone Press Championship.

That’s where YOU come in.

Bradford supporters are being urged by the Telegraph & Argus and the club to ‘Back the Bulls’ for the remaining six home games of the campaign, and help roar their team to safety.

Competitions, special offers, and messages from former stars and supporters from around the world will be just a few of the highlights over the coming weeks. While a new dedicated ‘Bradford Bulls – The Telegraph & Argus’ Facebook page will keep fans up-to-date with the campaign’s progress and latest news.

Toovey believes it’s the ideal time to pull together, with the Bulls needing to end an eight-game losing streak and start his tenure on a positive note.

He said: “We were obviously left in a pretty dire state in regards to finances and the minus 12-point penalty, and a lot of players exited the club because of those reasons.

“So we were in limbo there for months. A lot of those players left and went to Super League clubs and other rivals and it has obviously been very hard to get back on top of things after that.

“Despite that, we started well with some loan players before the Easter period came when we lost a few of those loanees.

Since then there it’s been very difficult to turn that dip around.

“We’re going to turn that around through hard work, with more than a little help from our superb supporters.

“Those fans have been fantastic – nothing but supportive since I’ve been here.

“Our fans way outnumber the opposition support wherever we go, and that’s a massive boost for us. I hope they keep the faith and I hope they understand this is such a difficult position for the players and club to be put in.

“So my message to them is ‘get out there, support us, barrack us and be positive about it’.

“There won’t be too many negative thoughts hopefully because we don’t need anyone dragging us down, we need people picking us up and pulling us through this tough time.

“The players and staff are going to give everything they’ve got to do that, and the fans are crucial to that.

“We just need to get past that minus two mark, which has been hanging around for a long time. Once we get past that, we can set new goals and new benchmarks for us to achieve.”

Andrew Chalmers teamed up with legendary former coach Graham Lowe to re-form the club in January following liquidation.

The New Zealander said: “The players are under no illusions as to what this all means to the club and the city – every game matters.

“The immediate focus is on getting two points this weekend at Rochdale, and they know what that means in terms of the rest of the games and the remainder of the season.

“This is all about gaining momentum and the ‘Back The Bulls’ campaign is central to that.

“Sometimes things just become tipping points and we’re hoping this initiative coupled with Geoff’s appointment serves as a catalyst to help us make that change.

“There was probably too much emphasis put on getting back to zero points – it started as a finger monkey and grew into an 800lb gorilla. We’ve got to get rid of that and get past that, and continue to fight our way through every single game. That’s where the fans can really carry us through – we’ve got the best fans in rugby league and they have been coming through thick and thin, rain, hail, or shine.

“Those fans have backed us, and I know the players feel that and don’t just want to win for themselves. They know exactly what this means.”
