JOE Keyes has failed in his bid to face Featherstone Rovers at Odsal on Sunday.

The Bradford scrum half was floored early in the second half during a feisty derby at Dewsbury Rams last weekend.

Keyes, who did not pass the return-to-play protocol after being knocked out, was hit by a reckless challenge from former Bulls player Lucas Walshaw.

"He just leant in – it was a late hit and he just happened to catch me on the chin," recalled Keyes.

"I was knocked out but I don't think that it was for long as when the physio was there I came round and he was talking to me.

"On Monday I was still groggy, and Tuesday I was still a bit rough, but now I am back to myself."

Half-back Dane Chisholm is due to be out for at least three weeks with the knee injury sustained against Hull KR the weekend before in the Summer Bash, while prop Mikolaj Oledzki and utility forward Cameron Smith have also missed out on this weekend's clash.

However, the news from the three-quarters is better with centres Ross Oakes and James Mendeika both returning.

Bulls player Jon Magrin, as well as Rams duo Walshaw and Aaron Ollett, have been charged by the Rugby Football League's independent match review panel following their derby.

Walshaw has that Grade B reckless strike with the shoulder to answer for, while Magrin and Ollett have both been hit with Grade B punching following a mass brawl soon after.

The hearing is set for next Tuesday.

Keyes does not believe that his injury cost the Bulls the match at Dewsbury, even though he had been influential and they were only trailing 20-12 at the time.

"You cannot put the result down to what happened to me as we still had 13 players competing," he said.

"There were still people out there who were fit and capable and you cannot put it down to one incident.

"We just need to stay a bit more composed – even when we are four, six, ten points down we are still not in a bad position."
