ROSS Peltier remains mystified why no action was taken against Lucas Walshaw during the Bulls' weekend defeat at Dewsbury.

The second-rower's challenge with his shoulder to flatten Joe Keyes infuriated Walshaw's former club, who criticised referee Liam Moore for not sending him off.

Peltier revealed he confronted the official to demand why no action was taken after a groggy Keyes was helped off the field.

The forward said: "I thought the officials missed it so I had a word with the ref but he said they were happy with the contact.

"Keyesy kicked the ball and (Walshaw) just came in with a forearm straight to his head and knocked him out. It was late as anything, he knew what he was doing."

Keyes' enforced exit just before the hour mark was soon followed by a mass brawl as tempers flared between both sides.

Peltier said: "We knew it was going to be tough game but that was the turning point.

"We had Keyesy gone, you looked at the bench and there were three front-rowers. It was tough and we had to reshuffle.

"The game went a bit wild and we lost control. You saw it with a few fights – but that happens.

"They wanted to drag us into that rubbish and they succeeded. It was out of character and we lost our heads."

Yet Peltier felt the Bulls had only themselves to blame after a seventh defeat on the bounce leaves them eight points adrift of Dewsbury at the bottom of the Championship table.

He said: "It came down to game management. They were smarter. We lost our head at times and didn't manage stuff right.

"We were eight points behind with 20 minutes left (when Keyes went off) but it was like we're a try behind with 30 seconds to go. We were doing stupid stuff we shouldn't have."
