BULLS will not be getting wrapped up in the high stakes surrounding tomorrow’s survival showdown at Dewsbury.

The 11th-placed Rams recorded only their second win of the campaign last week to move six points clear of the visitors at the foot of the Championship.

It has become a huge encounter for the Bulls after they gave leaders Hull KR a mighty scare in Blackpool.

But interim coach Leigh Beattie insists the state of the league table will not affect their approach going into the West Yorkshire derby as they look to reach the elusive zero mark.

“We’re not even thinking about that,” he said. “It’s just another game for us.

“We’ve got to knock these two points off. The lads have been good all week.

“There have been a few bumps and bruises after that physical game last Saturday. But they are all up for this one.”

After a demoralising run of heavy defeats, the performance at the Summer Bash was a timely reminder of what the Bulls can do when they can field a strong side.

The constant chopping and changing of personnel has been a problem throughout but Beattie has no doubts about their capability to deliver a big performance.

He added: “It’s in there but we struggle with selection with so many players in and out and we’ve had a lot of injuries.

“It’s been a rollercoaster and we’ve had a bit of adversity.

“But the lads trained well and spoke well that week – and they delivered.

“They’ve been tight as a group all year. We’ve been through a bit – not just at the start of the year but even this period we’ve just had with a few injuries and teams have racked up some points against us.

“But you don’t just get that bad overnight. I don’t know what it was, we can’t explain it but they fixed it.

“That game was massive for us. We had to perform for everybody – ourselves as coaches and players and the fans.

“We bounced back from that and hopefully we can continue to do that.”

Beattie confirmed Bulls are still looking to bring in more players. The current quartet of loanees from Leeds Rhinos are all making an impact.

He said: “I’m very pleased. They are good kids.

“(Sam) Hallas has been outstanding, averaging something like 55-60 tackles a game. He’s put his hand up.

“Mikolaj (Oledzki) has brought that extra punch in the middle for us.

“And I thought Jordan Lilley had one of his best games against Hull KR and really managed things. His kicking game was also good.

“Cameron Smith was a bit out of his depth in the first game but he’s getting a feel of it now. He’s playing against men and I thought he did really well.

“He picked up a shoulder injury in the first tackle last week and still braved it out.”

Bulls criticised referee Tom Grant’s handling of the Bash clash and Beattie accused the officials of several “shocking calls”.

Wigan’s Liam Moore will take charge tomorrow. The 23-year-old is in his first season in the Championship but Beattie picked his words carefully about the RFL’s choice.

“We’d all like a strong referee but that’s their decision. It’s the same for both sides and we’ve just got to execute our plan.”
