ACTING coach Leigh Beattie admitted that confidence was sky high in the Bulls dressing room after the second-half demolition of Dewsbury Rams.

The Bulls fought back from 14-12 down at the interval to win 56-18 at the Provident Stadium and they are now just four points adrift of yesterday's opponents at the foot of the Championship table after starting the season on minus 12.

Academy coach Beattie, who has been dealing with the media due to complications surrounding the employment of new head coach Geoff Toovey, said: "The confidence is oozing in there – but we are still taking it game by game.

"We just want to keep knocking them down week-by-week. It's always good to get two points but we will need to be better against a better side.

"Hand on heart, I didn't think it would turn out like that – not in a million years. They had us worried at half-time but the lads turned it around, they had a real dig and played some nice stuff."

Reflecting on the first-half performance, Beattie said: "It was the same old story again; far too many errors in the first half and indiscipline. We tried to fix it at half-time but only had one completion and Dewsbury scored again.

"We were trying too much fancy stuff, too long spreads, so we shortened it and it worked. It is a pretty simple game when you play it simple and run a little bit harder."

Former Bulls player Glenn Morrison is now under growing pressure as coach of the Rams after six consecutive league defeats.

Beattie said: "I have a lot of sympathy for Glenn. He is a good friend and I feel for him. They are a good club and I reckon they just need a kick-start.

"Dewsbury will feel this a bit – because I think they self-destructed and there is a bit of pressure on."

Although still unconfirmed, there are strong rumours that Toovey will be in 'official' control of the team before next weekend's trip to Oldham.

The Australian has been on the touchline and in the dressing room since arriving on the eve of the new season but Beattie has been billed as 'acting coach'.

"It's been a whirlwind, it's been great, and I have enjoyed it," said Beattie when asked if this was his final game in charge of the first team.

"I have been doing the under-19s alongside it and I will still be helping Geoff, so nothing will change."
