OMARI Caro's injury nightmare will soon be over but the Bradford Bulls winger says his next battle is going to involve losing weight.

By his own admission, the Jamaican international has piled on a few extra pounds during his seven week absence from rugby league.

Injured just 15 minutes into the first fixture of pre-season against Huddersfield Giants, Caro finally started running again this week at the club's training ground.

Although he insists he should be ready to return to action within 'two or three weeks', Caro is also aware of a change in his physique.

"I have put on a bit of weight," he admitted. "So I might be going back in as a front rower! But, fingers crossed, I will lose a bit of timber and get a place back on the wing.

"It's been tough watching from the sidelines and I can't wait to get back out there," he added.

"Getting injured within 15 minutes of the first game back was quite tough to take and, 'rehab' wise, I am not the best trainer.

"But it's just a case of getting fit again. I am doing a lot of weights but that's not the same as running out on the field with the boys.

"It takes a lot of patience and it's not been easy with what's gone on off the pitch. I feel like I could play today – but if I did that I would probably get injured again. It's a lot to do with your head."

Caro, who joined the Bulls in 2015 following spells with London Broncos, Hull KR, and Gateshead Thunder, suffered damaged ankle ligaments against Huddersfield as a result of a tackle by Danny Brough.

In his absence, the Bulls have collected four points from the opening five games but they are still eight points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table after being docked 12 points by the Rugby Football League.

"I think we can stay up. That's a no brainer for us," he insisted. "We have got those first few wins under our belts which has helped steady the ship.

"And when the weather clears up, we have got the team for a fast track – so we will challenge most teams in this league," he added.

"It's not been the easiest of starts and we have not had many players but the new guys coming in has helped out."

Asked whether he might have to go on loan due to the form of wingers Ethan Ryan and Ilies Macani, he said: "Ideally, I want to go straight back into the team. As a Bradford player, I want to play for Bradford not someone else.

"But if it's a case of getting some match fitness, I would play anywhere."
