LEIGH Beattie has challenged his Bulls Under-19s to keep improving ahead of tonight's game with Widnes Vikings at Odsal.

Doubling up as the first-team's interim head coach – while the wait for Geoff Toovey's visa rumbles on and on – Beattie also coaches the younger lads.

And he was delighted with their battling 28-20 victory over London Broncos' young guns at Ealing Trailfinders' ground on Sunday.

That clash, before the senior side's defeat on the same 3G pitch, saw tries from Ryan Leadbeater, Matthew Storton (2), Ebon Scurr and Thomas Doyle, with Alix Stephenson kicking the other eight points.

"The Under-19s were outstanding," said a happy Beattie. "There were a few new faces as well – some of them have only been at the club for a month while it was the first game for some others.

"We've got a few 16-year-olds in there, and they could be coming up against 20-year-olds, so they've done a great job.

"London were a big side and very physical but we matched that. The lads dug in – they could have been a bit better with the ball and some of the shapes could have been better, but that will come with time and more practice."

On tonight's visit of the Vikings (7.30pm), Beattie is hoping to see further improvements from his young charges.

"Let's see if we can improve again from Sunday," he said. "Widnes will be a good side, they always are, so it will be another good test.

"From the Wakefield game, we worked on things and took that into the London clash. Now, we will take the things we learned from the London game into tonight's match.

"It's all about improving week-in, week-out, and developing these lads."
