ROHAN Smith today saluted the loyalty of the Bulls fan base as they continue to wait for news on the troubled club's future.

Everything remains in limbo while joint-administrator Gary Pettit finalises details of the bid from the consortium looking to take ownership.

The Rugby Football League are understood to be happy with the package put forward for the Bulls, who were placed in administration by chairman Marc Green on November 14.

But until Pettit indicates whether the offer will be accepted – and that should be due to happen any time this week – then the uncertainty goes on for all concerned.

Players, coaches and staff are due to be paid their December wages shortly but have so far been given no clues as to what will happen.

Supporters, meanwhile, look on anxiously from the outside for any scrap of information.

Head coach Smith, who has remained a resolute character through these testing times, admires their spirit in dealing with the club's third administration in the space of just five years.

"I'm very respectful of the fans and the way they have hung in through several administrations at the club," said Smith.

"Once this is done I'm sure the new ownership, the players and myself will make a point of thanking the fans for sticking by the club.

"I know they are great fans. Part of the pain that we are all having at this moment is from knowing they are so loyal to the club.

"To still have 4-5,000 attending games in the Championship just shows their passion and commitment and it's great to know."

The squad are currently on a week's break between Christmas and New Year. Pre-season training is due to resume on Monday ahead of the scheduled opening friendly at Batley on January 15. There are no suggestions that game is presently under threat.

Sources remain optimistic that the one remaining bid to save the club will be deemed acceptable.

It had been hoped there would be news leading up to Christmas but the deadline kept being put back by Pettit, who is still considering the offer.

If a sale is not agreed, the Bulls are likely to be liquidated before the start of the new campaign in February.

Should they survive, Smith's side will kick off a third season in the Championship with a points penalty of anything up to 12 points.
