ROHAN Smith has admitted the Bulls’ squad for next season is one signing away from being complete – as things stand.

The head coach expects the re-signing of Tom Olbison on a one-year deal to be followed by the arrival of one more new face.

When that signing is confirmed, Smith says no further additions are likely ahead of the start of the 2017 campaign.

The Australian has seen a raft of departures since the end of last season but has recruited a trio of London players in Iliess Macani, Jon Magrin and Alex Foster.

Phil Joseph, Ross Peltier, Lachlan Barr, Jason Walton and Leon Pryce have also been signed and Smith is happy with how his squad is shaping up.

It is understood that players who do not necessarily feature in Smith’s plans could leave Odsal before the new season starts.

That could open the door for more new players to arrive but the Bulls boss said: “Unless there were to be departures, we have tidied up our roster for the time being.

“I never say never to anything but at this point in time – with Tom's announcement and potentially another announcement soon – we are pretty much done for the time being unless there were people to leave.”

The Bulls return for pre-season training this week and Smith added: “I'm very excited and as a staff we have spent the past week arranging the schedule and getting organised for pre-season.

“There is a real buzz around the staff group because we can't wait for the players to come back in and get cracking.”

Ben Kavanagh sustained a head knock during Scotland’s 38-12 defeat to England but is expected to be passed fit to face New Zealand on Friday.
