ROHAN Smith has confirmed that Dane Chisholm will make his debut for the Bulls in Sunday's must-win visit of Whitehaven.

The highly-rated half-back trained with his new team-mates for only the second time yesterday but looks certain to be handed a starting role this weekend.

It is hoped the 26-year-old Australian's arrival will give Bradford a major boost as they bid to sneak into the Championship top four ahead of the middle eights.

"Dane will play against Whitehaven and it's good to have him here," said Bulls head coach Smith.

"I've tracked his career since around 2008 and I coached against him when he was playing in the under-20s at Melbourne.

"Back home I have a lot of files on a lot of different players who I have researched and marked down as potential recruits.

"I'm aware of what he is capable of and we fully expect Dane to play his style of game and fit in with the side we have, although we're not expecting too much from him too quickly.

"He's quick, has some great footwork and he backs himself, so we will be encouraging him to play what he sees and show what he can do.

"Dane can run, he can kick and he can organise – he has played full back as well – so he has a lot of different skills."

If Bradford win and Halifax or Batley lose on Sunday, Smith's men will move back to within a point of the top four.

The Bulls boss said: "We've just got to look after our own backyard and play well against Whitehaven on Sunday to try and get the result.

"We have to win all our remaining games but I'm not looking further ahead than Whitehaven because they are going to throw a lot at us."

Mitch Clark is set for another fortnight on the sidelines and captain Adrian Purtell is "still a few weeks away", although Lee Gaskell could return against Oldham next week.

Smith said he was open-minded about making a move for hooker Beau Falloon, who was released from Leeds this week.

Falloon joined the Rhinos from Gold Coast Titans, where he worked under Smith, ahead of the 2016 season.

But he missed the start of the campaign after damaging a foot in training and went on to make only ten appearances before being shown the door.

With Joe Lumb currently recovering from knee surgery and Stuart Howarth's one-month loan from Wakefield due to expire shortly, 29-year-old Falloon could come onto Bradford's radar.

Smith said: "I know Beau well. He's a really good lad and we are always looking to strengthen our group, so we will play that as it comes.

"We will have to see what happens with Lumb's recovery, see what Wakefield's take on Howarth is and see what Beau wants to do, potentially.

"At the moment there is nothing to report there - but I'm always on the look-out.

"Beau is a really tough competitor and someone who fits in well with the group and really adds to the spirit and dynamic of the team, which he did when I was at the Titans."

Meanwhile, Jonny Walker has joined the Cougars on loan for the rest of the season.

The Bulls prop joined his home-town club last winter but has struggled to establish himself at Odsal this year.

Walker has spent time on loan at Dewsbury this season and should feature for Paul March's side in their home game against York on Sunday.

Walker previously spent time on dual-registration at Cougar Park during the 2013 season when he was a Castleford player.

St Helens scrum half Lewis Charnock has extended his loan at Bradford on a week-to-week basis and will hope to feature again shortly after injury.
