DANNY Addy enjoyed his spell in the hooker role after being thrust into the position ahead of the Summer Bash defeat to Leigh in Blackpool last month.

Addy started at nine, with Adam O'Brien dropped to the bench, as new head coach Rohan Smith opted to go with size in the pack against the Championship leaders.

The Scotland international thought he had scored the try that won the game with five minutes remaining, before opposite number Micky Higham pounced at the death to cruelly deny Bradford the two points.

Addy impressed after starting at hooker again in the following match at home to Dewsbury, which ended in another narrow defeat, before reverting to stand-off as the Bulls returned to winning ways after a come-from-behind battle at Workington on Sunday.

Yet despite the hit and miss nature of their recent results, Addy insists the team can take the standards they set themselves in Blackpool into the remainder of the regular season, with the Super Eights looming ever larger on the horizon.

The forward, a firm favourite amongst supporters on the Odsal terraces, also believes the support of the Bradford fans can help them.

Addy said: "Playing at hooker came out of the blue. Rohan spoke to me during the week, saying he wanted to go with a bit more size to begin with before introducing Adam O'Brien off the bench.

"I enjoyed playing at nine and if selected to play there again, I don't mind because I enjoy playing in that role.

"It's important that we take the performance against Leigh into games as, with no disrespect intended, just because we're not playing a team like Leigh doesn't mean we prepare any differently and we've got to concentrate on that.

"We've set our standards high and if we keep the standards high, then we're going to blow teams away because we have no doubts in our own ability.

"To go from thinking you've won the game (against Leigh) to losing the game within a few minutes was absolutely gutting. The boys' heads were down for a bit afterwards because to lose a game like that is disappointing.

"The fans were great in Blackpool. A lot of Super League clubs wouldn't have had that support and to build on what we had at the Summer Bash last year was amazing, so to have a following like that behind us is brilliant."
