MITCH Clark has been getting regular feedback on his performances from his dad this season – from the other side of the world.

Trevor Clark, the former Bradford Northern forward who enjoyed a spell at Odsal in the mid-Nineties, has been watching his son in action via Bulls TV.

He has been impressed by what he has seen, but now Clark senior will head over from Australia to see his son play live.

Mitch, who was born in Pontefract during his father’s time at Northern, said: “Dad is coming over next Tuesday and will watch our next four or five games.

“It will be good to have him here in person again because we are very close and I certainly look up to him.

“Having him at games will be like when I was a kid again, when he would be in the stands encouraging me.

“I’ve not had that in the past two year or so since I’ve been in England and I’ve missed it.

“But he watches all my games on Bulls TV and he gives me feedback from there and tips me up on stuff. That’s been good, but it cannot compare to having him in person.”

Clark emerged up as arguably the best young forward in the Championship this season following his close-season move from Doncaster.

The 23-year-old’s combative style has won him many admirers among the Odsal faithful and beyond.

Clark said: “I’m really enjoying my rugby and we are improving as a team, which showed against Leigh last week.

“It was a big game and disappointing for it to end like it did because I thought we deserved to win.

“It was probably one of the better performances this year and our attitude has improved since Rohan arrived.”

That Clark previously worked under Smith in Penrith Panthers’ Under-20s side has helped.

Clark explained: “Rohan coached me at Penrith in the Holden Cup and we won the Grand Final that year, so that shows what he’s all about.

“Rohan started as assistant but then our head coach left to coach a New South Wales Cup team.

“Rohan took over as one of the head coaches and he works with his players a lot on a one-to-one basis.

“He works with you as opposed to him just being your boss, so I’ve got a lot of respect for him

“Our relationship is very good and he’s all about doing as much for you as you are doing for yourself.

“I just try and knuckle down and keep working at it, I guess, and not get comfortable or complacent.

“I’m always looking to improve and there are always things you can do better.

“You can look back at a game and think ‘maybe if I’d pushed a little bit harder or tackled a bit harder, it might have gone our way’.

“But I’m just going to keep trying to play the way I’ve been playing.”

Clark’s performance against Leigh last week proved little that was not known.

He scored a try, he ran his blood to water, he inspired. Again.

Clark said: “If I end up scoring a try then great, but first and foremost it’s about doing your job and doing it well.

"Scoring tries on the back of that is a bonus.”

Clark is out of contract at the end of the season and Hull KR are believed to be leading the chase for his signature.

He added: “There has been a lot of talk but nothing has really happened as yet.

“Playing in Super League is one of my goals, so hopefully if I can keep progressing, then who knows what can happen?”
