IF there was ever an opportune moment to return to action, it is when playing in front of your new head coach for the first time.

Matty Blythe should be back in a Bulls jersey during tomorrow’s visit of Swinton as he looks to re-establish himself in the side.

The versatile centre or back-rower, who lined up on the wing in the Million Pound Game last season, has not played since the home win over London Broncos on March 24.

He sustained a hamstring injury that night and has missed the past five games.

But timing is all and as new boss Rohan Smith prepares to watch his new charges for the first time, Blythe is poised to return.

“I sustained the injury in the first five or 10 minutes against London and managed to finish the game because, while I’m on the pitch, I’ll always give 100 per cent,” the 27-year-old said.

“I’m back this week, or at least back in contention, to get playing and have a good run in the team again.

“I like playing on the edges or in the middle, so I’m just looking forward to running my blood to water tomorrow in whatever position I’m put.

“There always seems to be one injury every year for me, and it’s part and parcel of rugby league, but let’s hope this is the last one this year.

“I’m feeling good and I’m feeling fresh, so it’s just unfortunate that I get these little niggles and they end up being a bit bigger than anticipated.

“But it’s not how you’re injured, it’s how you come back and stay professional throughout your rehab. Whenever I play I’ll give my all.”

Blythe played under Tony Smith at Warrington and is looking forward to playing under his nephew at Bradford.

Blythe added: “I don’t really know too much about Rohan, but I played under Tony at Warrington and Brian Smith is obviously a big name in the game.

“If Rohan is anything like them then I’m sure he will be a big success.

“He’s clearly gained some outstanding experience in Australia and him coming here is great news for us. I’m looking forward to working under him.

“The new coach will have new ideas and bring new systems, but no-one works harder than us in the Championship or Super League.

“We’re doing all right at the moment but we want to do better and we’re all out to impress the new boss.”

Interim head coach Matt Diskin will pick the team for tomorrow’s game and the former Bulls captain is delighted to have Blythe available again.

Diskin said: “Matty has some fantastic qualities and is a really energetic character with some great experience.

“He’s a fantastic professional and sets a great example to the rest of the lads. To have him available again is a massive boost.”

Blythe is among a large group of players whose contract expires at the end of the season and is remaining open-minded about his future.

He said: “I’m not sure what I’m doing yet because I’ve been injured and have just focused on getting fit again.

“I’ll see what happens in the next few weeks and am not going to rush into anything

“I love the club and I’ve been here for a few years now.

“I’m just going to see how the year plays out and then take it from there.”
