ADAM O'Brien is looking to continue his progression at the Bulls after rejecting Super League interest to continue his career at Odsal.

The homegrown star had agreed to put pen to paper on his new three-year deal prior to the departure of Jimmy Lowes last month.

The 22-year-old from Halifax is looking to push on as he and his team-mates seek to impress new head coach Rohan Smith.

O'Brien knows he has to continue his own fine form with competition for the nine role heating up as both Vila Halafihi and Joe Lumb continue to impress.

"The contract had been signed before Jimmy left, so it's onwards and upwards now with the new coach coming in," said O'Brien.

"There were a few rumours in regards to Super League clubs being interested in me but I looked at my options and the better option for me is to stay here at the Bulls.

"I'll be playing here every week regularly at nine and playing big minutes too and it will help progress my career."

O'Brien added: "I'm gutted that Jimmy left the club. He put me into the side for a full 80 minutes and brought my personal game on leaps and bounds, as shown by the amount of awards I won last season.

"Jimmy has improved me as a player a lot and for him to go now is a downfall – but I've just got to push on and carry on with my own game and continue to improve on the things that he taught me.

"I'll just go from there because we have a new coach coming in and I'll have to impress him too.

"Vila Halafihi is on loan at Swinton at the moment and is performing for them, which is good for the club, and then we have Joe Lumb here pushing me for the number nine shirt.

"It's going to be a tough contest for the hooker role, especially with the new coach coming in, with three hookers here all vying for the shirt. Hopefully I'll continue to keep my spot there."

Halafihi, meanwhile, is not eligible to face the Bulls in Sunday's match under the terms of his season-long loan at Swinton.

The game has been put back 30 minutes to accommodate supporters who wish to attend Bradford City's play-off semi-final first leg at home to Millwall.

The Bantams' televised clash kicks off at 12.15pm at Valley Parade that day, with the Bulls' visit of Swinton now taking place at 3.30pm.
