JIMMY Lowes has returned to work as a consultant with Yorkshire Carnegie – just two days after leaving the Bulls.

The legendary former Bradford hooker resigned last week but helped to oversee Sunday's thumping home win over Workington as part of a hand-over process to interim boss Matt Diskin.

As exclusively revealed by the Telegraph & Argus last week, Lowes had been lined up for a return to rugby union with Bryan Redpath's promotion-chasing side.

His appointment was confirmed yesterday on a consultancy basis until the end of the season and it is understood he will be working with the backs in a role which could lead to a permanent position.

The 46-year-old remains a popular figure at Carnegie and, as head coach, he guided them to the Championship play-off semi-finals in 2014 before leaving to take the reins at Odsal in June of that year.

Lowes' return is a timely boost for Carnegie, who launch their Championship play-off campaign against Doncaster at Headingley on Sunday.

The aggregate winners over the two legs will play Bristol or Bedford in the two-legged final to earn a place in the Aviva Premiership next season.

Carnegie head coach Redpath said: "Jimmy is obviously someone who knows this group of players very well and the club as a whole.

"Once we learnt of his availability, we approached him about the possibility of joining the backroom team for the play-offs, similar to the way Alan Tait has been working with us in recent weeks.

"Jimmy lives locally and was keen to help out where he can and we are looking forward to having him involved at training this week."

* Salford owner Marwan Koukash says he intends to appeal against the decision to deduct his club six points for breaching the Super League salary cap.

The Red Devils were found guilty on Monday evening of exceeding the league's £1.825million wage ceiling in 2014 and 2015.

Koukash said: "I thought about it overnight and have spoken to my legal team and we're going to have to fight this decision."
