JARROD Sammut has been labelled a "winner" by Workington boss Phil Veivers ahead of Sunday's showdown at Odsal.

Former Bulls star Sammut will return to his old club as the struggling Cumbrians bid to kickstart their faltering campaign.

They can call on the stellar talents of former Bradford favourite Sammut, who spent two years at the club after joining ahead of the 2012 campaign.

Veivers, who served as Brian Noble's assistant at Odsal during the Bulls' glory days, said: "Jarrod is a winner and is always ultra-competitive whoever we are up against.

"The fact it's Bradford this week probably gives him an added incentive, so we will see how he goes.

"I spoke to Jarrod at the beginning of last season and he wasn't getting in at Wakefield. I tried to get him on board then but a new coach came in and he thought he might have had a chance there.

"That didn't work out and they sent him out on loan to London Broncos, before he was released and came to us as a free agent for the rest of the year.

"We then signed him on a two-year deal and he's good mates with our forward Latu Fifita.

"With Jarrod in the side, you've always got a chance in games and having him here is an attraction to bring other players in."

Workington currently lie bottom of the Championship after winning just one of their opening ten matches.

Veivers said: "In the last two years we have got off to slow starts, so we had spoken about wanting to get off to a flier this year.

"You only need to look where we are on the table to realise that every game is important for us.

"We've just got to focus on what we need to do and go to Bradford in a positive frame of mind."
