MATT Diskin admits he would like to become a head coach in his own right one day after presiding over the Bulls' thumping win at Dewsbury on Sunday.

The Bradford under-19s coach and assistant boss took charge of first-team training last week with head coach Jimmy Lowes absent due to illness.

Diskin and fellow assistant coach Chev Walker prepared the players and picked the team for the 52-18 win against the Rams.

The former Leeds and Bradford hooker's reputation is growing following the role he has performed with the Bulls' under-19s, with Ross Oakes the latest academy graduate to make his debut at the weekend.

Diskin said: "I really enjoyed it. I had some great support from Chev Walker and all the other support staff at the club were brilliant too.

"I thought we did exceptionally well and were rewarded with a good performance at the weekend.

"We were allowed to put our own little mark on things and the boys bought into it by training really well. They bought into the plan that we put together and it was fantastic to get a result.

"We were allowed to pick the team with input from Jimmy and, if it was down to me completely, I would probably have pushed for a few more of the under-19s squad to be involved.

"There were arguments for and against that but we got given pretty much free rein to lead things during the week and on game day too.

"I know Jimmy turned up in some capacity on Sunday but he literally was totally hands-off and left us to run it, so it was fantastic to get a good result."

Diskin enjoys his roles at Odsal as assistant first-team coach and nurturing the academy prospects in the under-19s.

He was recently interviewed for the Batley Bulldogs head coach position, with John Kear set to depart for Wakefield at the end of the season.

Batley approached Bradford for permission to speak to 34-year-old Diskin but he is in no rush to climb the coaching ladder just yet.

He said: "I think one day I would like to have a head coach role in the longer-term. I'm very confident in my abilities as a coach but I'm also hungry to learn as well.

"I'm constantly looking at ideas inside and outside the sport to develop myself further as an individual and as a coach."

Lowes returned to training this week as the Bulls prepare for the visit of Workington on Sunday week.
