CHEV Walker has likened Bradford's recent slump to the plight of defending Super League champions Leeds as he insisted: We can turn this around.

The Bulls head to injury-crippled Dewsbury tomorrow aiming to engineer an upturn in form after losing three of their last four matches.

Assistant boss Walker revealed the players and coaching staff are working harder than ever to find the answers to their problems and is confident they will stop the rot.

Walker's old club Leeds have looked a pale shadow of the side who claimed a glorious treble last season, yet the former Great Britain star believes quality teams will always overcome such adversity.

Reflecting on the Bulls' home defeat to Sheffield, Walker said: "This has been the lowest point since the club last went into administration in regards to the mood of the place.

"But it's early in the season and I look at things positively because we've got time to turn things around.

"We've not become stinkingly bad overnight, it has just been a bit of a progression. The pressure, coupled with low confidence, has built up but there are ways and means of breaking that.

"Look at the current champions down the road at Headingley – they are in the same position as us, so it happens to anybody and everybody really.

"But good teams and good people break that cycle and they come out of it fighting.

"I know on a personal note that I've been through a lot worse than this – I'm not talking about rugby here – and I still smile.

"I know there is light at the end of any tunnel, so it's just a matter of grafting hard and making sure we don't quit.

"That Leeds side is as talented as any team in Super League, yet they can't get a win.

"Their team is more talented than ours but they're playing a style of rugby like we are.

"It only takes a handful of players to be low on confidence – and if your leaders are low on confidence, then it can be infectious.

"Equally, it only takes one person to come up with a blinder and you break that cycle."

There have been no public pledges of support for head coach Jimmy Lowes from chairman Marc Green or managing director Steve Ferres this week.

But Green has told Lowes he is 100 per cent behind him and Walker said: "So he should be.

"Jimmy took us to that Million Pound Game last year after sticky patches where people doubted us – but we came through it.

"I'm sure that we've got their full backing and we're all working hard.

"I know hard work alone doesn't get you results – it's confidence, injuries and some things which we just can't pinpoint at this moment in time.

"But we are searching to find out what they are to nullify it quickly and get them ironed out."

Supporters vented their fury following the Sheffield loss but Walker said: "It hurt us too.

"Fans might think that we don't care but that's a load of rubbish.

"I would ask any of them to come here to Tong and watch us train and see that we do care.

"We care about their thoughts because they give us their support and we care about our jobs because our jobs are on the line. That goes for the players, staff and everybody.

"The pressure is on but the fight has not gone and even a performance this week would at least be a step in the right direction.

"Inevitably, we want to win every single week because that's what we work for.

"Things have not gone right and when that has happened we have fallen into a cycle of feeling sorry for ourselves, right across the board.

"Maybe there has been a bit of 'here we go again', so it's about breaking that cycle.

"We're working on that in training – if something goes wrong, we are changing the way we deal with it.

"All you can do is try and pinpoint what's actually making us be the way we are at the minute."

Academy centre Ross Oakes could make his senior bow, while James Clare may replace Oscar Thomas at full back, although wholesale changes are not expected.

Walker explained: "We've got to have faith in everybody and rotation isn't always the right thing.

"If you quit on someone, you basically put them in a deeper hole, so if you drop people who are low on confidence, then you damage them.

"For me, you prevail with them and try and nurture their confidence back."
