KRIS Welham says he loved his first appearance for the Bulls and is aiming to stay on the try-scoring trail this season.

The close-season signing from Hull KR claimed a fine individual effort in Sunday's opening pre-season friendly against Leeds.

He showed impressive skill to stab the ball behind the Rhinos' defence and then touch down his own grubber kick.

"I was nervous and excited beforehand because it's a new club and a new challenge – but I loved it," said Welham.

"We've worked hard in pre-season and I felt we went really well against a good Leeds side.

"Towards the end of the game it got a bit loose and sloppy, so there is stuff to work on going into the new season.

"Where did that try come from? It was off the cuff really.

"I took an offload, saw there was plenty of space behind the line and it was a kind of try I'd probably never scored before in my career.

"It was instinctive and easy to put the ball down in the end.

"Sunday was our first time on the field together as a team and we gelled really well, created a lot of opportunities and scored some good tries.

"That can only bode well for the season ahead and I'd like to score as many tries as I can. I'll certainly be doing my best in every game to get over the try-line."

The 28-year-old is noted for playing as a left centre but he was deployed on the right against Leeds and added: "I'm not bothered where I play, as long as I'm in the side every week."

Welham commutes to Bradford from his home in Hull with Bulls head of performance and video operations Lance Du'Lac.

"That has made it easier because he does all the driving!" said Welham.

"The boys have made me feel really welcome here and it's like I've been part of the club for a long time."

Welham had spent his entire career with Hull KR but made the move to Odsal after being unable to agree terms on a new deal with his home-town club.

While the Bulls impressed at Headingley on Sunday, Welham's old club were being stuffed 60-20 by deadly rivals Hull FC. That followed a 38-6 thumping at the hands of Huddersfield a week previously.

Welham said: "Two games and nearly 100 points conceded doesn't look good for a Hull KR fan.

"It's pre-season and obviously my focus is now on Bradford, and I signed here with every intention of getting back into Super League.

"We're a very good side and we believe we can go all the way and get into the top league."

Meanwhile, the Bulls' home game against London Broncos has been moved again to Thursday, March 24 with an 8pm kick-off. It had originally been brought forward from Sunday to Friday night.
