BULLS trialist Dan Caprice is hoping to show what he is made of in Sunday’s opening friendly against Leeds at Headingley.

The 26-year-old is bidding to earn a contract with Jimmy Lowes’ men and trained with the squad for the first time yesterday.

The former England Sevens star is primarily a full back or winger but says he can also play in the halves and even at hooker.

Although a novice to league, Caprice said: “I’m hoping there will be a cross-over in terms of the skills sets in both codes, although I know there are some big differences too.

“The defence structures are a bit different and I know I will have a hell of a job to learn the systems in league.

“But I guess when you break the games down there are a lot of similarities and hopefully I can capitalise on that and turn it in my favour.

“I'd say my biggest attribute is my speed and ability to beat defenders.

“It can get you out of trouble and hopefully that can help me in league as well as it’s about trying to find the space and opportunities to use your pace.

“I’d love to be involved against Leeds on Sunday. If I get the nod to play that would be fantastic because that’s how you learn.

“You can train all you want but you can’t beat actually playing with the boys on the field.

“I would be chuffed to be out there and get a few minutes.”

Caprice will speak to Lowes today about the length of the trial but he looks a decent bet to feature against the Rhinos along with fellow trialist Rhys Jacks.

Caprice added: “I think playing at full back would be good to start with and then I could potentially move into the halves when I’ve learnt the game.

“The more touches of the ball I can get the better, so full back to start with, then halves and possibly even hooker too.

“I can offer utility value but I think it would be best to nail down a spot in one position first while I learn the game.

“Sometimes on the wing in union you can get isolated but playing full back at league should mean I see a lot more of the ball.”

Caprice, who came through the academy at Saracens and has also played for Biarritz and London Welsh, became acquainted with the 13-man code during his time spent living in Australia in the past year.

He said: “League is a nice balance between rugby union and Sevens rugby – it has the physicality of union but has the pace and intensity that union sometimes lacks.

“I watched a couple of Bulls games last week, including the Million Pound Game, so I know a few of the names.

“It was good to meet all the boys yesterday and I’m raring to go now.

“If I can get a deal for a year here at Bradford that would be brilliant.

“It would be nice to get some stability and the set-up here seems great, so it’s a place I would be happy to stay around.

“I just want to impress now and show my value, which hopefully I can do in the next couple of weeks.”
