DANE Nielsen will not be returning to Odsal for the 2016 campaign, the Bulls have finally confirmed.

The Australian centre joined Bradford last July to boost Jimmy Lowes’ squad ahead of the promotion-deciding Qualifiers.

He made his debut in the memorable home win over Salford Red Devils and made five appearances in total, including the Million Pound Game defeat at Wakefield.

Nielsen had agreed a deal keeping him at the Bulls until the end of the 2016 campaign but managing director Steve Ferres said: “We have decided not to exercise the option for a second year.”

Nielsen’s arrival in Bradford came after he had been sacked by St George Illawarra Dragons last May.

He was apparently involved in an incident at a Cronulla nightspot which led to allegations that he drunkenly bit a woman's leg.

Nielsen's contract at St George was subsequently terminated but his pedigree was impressive following his first-grade debut for Cronulla in 2007 before he joined Melbourne Storm the following year.

He went on to win both a World Club Challenge (2010) and NRL Premiership (2012) during his five-year tenure with the Storm before switching to New Zealand Warriors prior to the 2013 season.

His time with the Warriors was underwhelming but Nielsen has over 100 NRL games to his name and represented Queensland three times in State of Origin battles.

Meanwhile, the Bulls enjoyed a training game against Hull FC yesterday as they prepare for next week’s opening friendly at Leeds.

The game involved two 35-minute halves and featured Bulls trialist Rhys Jacks as he looks to secure a permanent deal at the club.

The Bulls’ Championship game at Sheffield Eagles, originally scheduled for Sunday, May 22, has been brought forward to Friday, May 20 and will be played at Sheffield Hallam University’s sports field.
